    My point exactly.

You and Lily, Squirrrel, cantona and a few others will post constantly your views on Smeg, Pat and others as if it is a special right you have.

    I'm exercising my special rights.

Think of my posts as nothing more than a reflection of your posts regarding Smeg, Pat et al.

Depends on how you view the time line I guess. If I was banned for making threats as LDMA claimed then it was more like 6 weeks than 3

Either way you don't think I belong as a poster in that forum. That's your right.

I have many friends who are not teachers Poolcleaner. I appreciate DD for starting this forum, and inviting me to join. I respect him as a guy who has made a nice life for himself in Thailand, learned to speak the language, and is not a vicious gossip.

Does it really bother you so much that I have a ecclectic group of friends Poolcleaner? I am proud of the friends I have, and the friendship I get in return from them.

By the way arent you a teacher? You were a couple of weeks ago posting about going to get your visa taken care of and how you hoped your school would help you out.

I'd have thought this might have been better posted on t'other site which has lots of teachers, but SirBurr is a 'resident' here so he should be able to post whatever he wants...

Poolie: if the OPer specifies 'teachers' in his OP then it would hardly seem appropriate for you to state that this is not a teachers site so go home...

SirBurr: as I am one of the few teachers on this forum I guess i'm in a position to answer some of your questions...

Some background for a start...i'm a kiwi but i've worked overseas most of my life...NZ govt requires that you work in NZ for the last 4 years before you retire to qualify for pension and you must physically be in the country every 6 months to continue to receive your pension...

therefore I have no expectation of the govt taking care of me in my dottage...

also, i have no plan to retire back in NZ...why would i? i don't know anyone there...i'm like a tourist when i go home...oh and it's fokin cold in the 'mainland'...

my training is in Hotel management and i worked as a hotel manager in various countries for many years...i quit when i was 45 and went to England to do a Master Degree in Hotel Management...

this enabled me to switch from managing to teaching...

i've been here for 10 years, teaching hotel & airline subjects in Universities and working with the airlines in training for flight attendants...

i work about 25 hours a week and make about 100k per month...

during my time here i've managed to buy three new cars - one at a time and upgrading each time - plus a condo by the river...and because i recently married, a house for my wife...

I live here by choice...having visited over 100 countries and worked in about 20...I don't have any plans to leave, although I could if the political situation required it...

In your Op you didn't appear to allow for the likes of me...and others in similar situations...who earn a decent salary by thai standards which is susequently spend/invested in thailand...

not everyone wants to run away in the end...and lots of us actually like to live here...

Ok now I am getting pissed at the teachers here...AO earning up over 80K a month and Klong at 100k+! That is way more than I was led to believe is possible. I am getting green with envy before I even get started. Sounds like you teachers are doing better than most who are not on expat package deals.

If in the international schools, contacts, good teaching and right place/right time, anything is possible to earn over and above 100,000k (oh, plus hard work)

Well AO, where exactly did you come in on this thread?

No, nevermind, in the past you've never showed much understanding of the current of a thread you just post your crap then apologise for being stoned and take the kids to the park.

AO are you going to actually contribute something to the topic of the thread, or just rant?

You post your salary details on 20dayajarnforum at least once per week, so why don't you do it on this thread and at least allow your conceited habit to return your posts to the topic.

Sorry AO, but this lot is lost on me.

Perhaps the point you should address is the one that DD has little time for TEFLers in Thailand. You know the same people Smeg refers to?

I suppose in a way I'm happy you have ecclectic friends, good on you. I'm just glad I'm not one!

    And I am a TEFLer.........so what?

I'll agree with Smeg here, i have always found it rather crass to post details of your salary.
Of course Smeg would never do that.

It's a open secret that the way to earn decent money teaching in Thailand is to teach non-English language subjects...let me clarify...

i mean if you're teaching English per se then there are thousands of others teaching the same thing...which brings the rate down...

if you teach other subjects - albeit in english - there are fewer teachers available and therefore the rate/hour increases markedly...

the unis pay me 1200 per hour...

if i'm doing corporate stuff it ranges between 1000 - 1500, but they are always 40-50 hour blocks paid at one time - I always state on the quotation that payment is due in full at the end of the month in which classes start and that way i get the money in the bank well before the classes have finished - oh and my prices are always net..if they want to tax it they add the tax on top

it would be fair to say however, that i have been here 10 years and certainly did not earn this much for relatively few hours worked when i first arrived

Check out the thread that I started recently. It shows several teachers announcing why they think here is a good place to live and teach. As you'll see, they aren't the brightest stars in the sky, hence their decision to teach here.

Oh,by the way, AO's rant early in that thread is because two of the dumb quotes used were written by him

    Poolcleaner,

I am not a Tefler. I teach in a university and have done so for 16 years. If you notice I dont get in the tefl debates. I get in the debates where the country I choose to live is being put down. Thailand is my home and I like it here.

You have had it in for me for a long time and I have kept my mouth shut as we share many of the same friends. But you just kept on digging and digging so you got to the bottom.

So if you want to fuck with me I am gonna fuck with you back. Judging by the messages I am recieving I have done the right thing.
