Wishful thinking on your part.
More likely they will either stay home or vote for McCain.
^ I doubt they will turn and vote for OB, but I agree that the independents will play the decisive hand in the finale.
Swing State Polls Have Bad News for Obama
His weaknesses are most apparent in Florida and Ohio, but in all three swing states, which include Pennsylvania, he has alarmingly low levels of support from Clinton supporters when it comes to a direct match-up with John McCain.

anyway, i saw this today and had to post it.
john mccain is dumping his medical records on the friday before a three day holiday weekend.
oh, and only a hand picked group of reporters can see them.
oh, and they can't photocopy them.
oh, and what will be made available is less than half of what was released in 2000...and as we all know, he's eight years older.

Seems like McCain is also in hot water for links to religious nutters.
McCain rejects minister's endorsement - CNN.com(CNN) -- In the face of mounting controversy over headline-grabbing statements from the Rev. John Hagee, CNN has learned that presumptive Republican nominee John McCain decided Thursday to reject his endorsement.
Sen. John McCain speaks in February alongside the Rev. John Hagee, a Texas televangelist.
McCain later also repudiated the support of Rod Parsley, an Ohio preacher who has called Islam an inherantly violent religion.
McCain told CNN's Brian Todd that he rejected Hagee's endorsement after Todd brought to his attention Hagee's comments that Adolf Hitler had been fulfilling God's will by hastening the desire of Jews to return to Israel in accordance with biblical prophecy.
"God says in Jeremiah 16: 'Behold, I will bring them the Jewish people again unto their land that I gave to their fathers. ... Behold, I will send for many fishers, and after will I send for many hunters. And they the hunters shall hunt them.' That would be the Jews. ... Then God sent a hunter. A hunter is someone who comes with a gun and he forces you. Hitler was a hunter," Hagee said, according to a transcript of his sermon.
In a statement to CNN on Thursday, McCain said "Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Rev. Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well."
here's mccain on 'rev' parsley....
ABC News: McCain Pastor: Islam Is a 'Conspiracy of Spiritual Evil'"one of the truly great leaders in America, a moral compass, a spiritual guide."
hearts and minds, right?
Today he not only rejected Hagee's endorsement, he also rejected Rod Parsley's endorsement. After nearly a year of actively seeking these endorsements he is now back to square one. I wonder if any other prominent religious right leaders will come out in support of McCain after this!Originally Posted by benbaaa
10 things you should know about John McCain:
- John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.1
- According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."2
- His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3
- McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."4
- The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.5
- He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.6
- Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."7
- McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.8
- McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."9
- He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.10

according to that link, it does appear that way.
so now that he's been determined fit by his doctors, obama can soundly beat him on the issues.
Let's hope the game is played over the real issues by both sides.Originally Posted by raycarey

that said (or typed, i guess), i am somewhat optimistic that this campaign will be more dignified than those in recent memory....in that the most outlandish attacks will be quickly put down/disavowed by the candidates. the surrogates will still put them out, but they will hopefully be quashed rapidly.

Neither McCain or Obama seem to be personally interested in pursuing the sort of smear politics that characterised the Rove/Bush administration. It adds to my estimation of them both, and certainly underscores the substantial differences between McCain and the Republican Right.
Jeez, if I was Obama I might even consider offering Mccain some role in the new administration, like Veterans Affairs or whatever.
It's been done before, though I don't think with a opposition presidential nominee. Elizabeth Dole rings a bell.
Religious extremist McCain is unelectable.
Hagee, Parsley - heh...
