Looks like an Asian love hotel with long-stay amenities. Really amusing.

Whenever I "decorate" I paint in sensible off-whites, put in plain wood furniture, etc. (but secretly I'd rather paint the walls purple, put down shag carpets, hang beads, install lava lamps, etc.). Oh well.

^ I always thought of having a 70's room, for orgies and stuff.

The good thing about remodeling / redecorating this house is that you can send all what you don't want into the river.

Apart from the fact that it has been decorated like a nightclub (inside and out), it is not that bad. Colours aside, it is too dark and 'cold' for my liking.

I can't imagine anyone topping the purple monstrosity. But don't associate this with the 70's, this dog is all 80's. 70's moderne often incorporated natural woods and even art nouveau. In the 80's you had that "bank lobby" aesthetic, which this is a prime example of. Looks like the abandoned set of a Miami Vice episode, or a place Tony Montana would like to hang out at.

This is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long while. Hideously good fun.
It's great to see a forum have fun and not take itself to seriously..Like the nazi camp (TV) i have been at for the last year or two..
Must remember to take the camera in the car, as these horrific LSD/ Andy Warhol /Salvador Dali monstrosities are everywhere in CM..
    Too funny, thanks again.

Yep scary isn't it? And not only your wife; the builder will think any of these designs and styles practical and tasteful. And the lesson is - when you get that house built don't leave anything to the discretion of the builder or your good lady, unless you are colour blind or permanently drunk.

Another public service announcement brought to you by the makers of Teak Door.

Do you ever wonder how Thai couples talk to each other? Here is house that cost a good few million to build on a nice big size plot in Pattaya and not too far from Sukhumvit Road, so lets for arguements sake say it cost 12 million in all, now thats quite a big chunk of change, so they got the house all built and husband and wife are discussing the color scheme, Thai wifey says she wants a soft color, Thai husband suggests different shades of cream thinking how nice it will look, I think they think different to us normal folks.....

I think I might have discovered a reason for some of the wierd colour schemes.
We are looking to buy the house next door, so we can rent it out. It needs repainting, so far, no problem.
However, according to my G/F the house has some bad feng shuei, so we must paint it her "lucky" birthday colour LILAC !!!!!!!!! WTF.
I have tried to change her mind, and given her some alternatives but she won't budge.
On the Up Side, at least the house might become famous by featuring on Teak Door
Do not walk beside me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me for I may not follow. Just pretty much leave me the fuck alone!

I lived for a while in a 7 story apartment block in Taipei- will try to dig some pictures out.
It was entirely faced with glazed white tiles - except for the huge 6' chinese characters for "Eternal Happiness" and "Fortune " in red and gold tiles wherever they could fit them in !!!!
WTF the rent was cheap !!!!

Divorce will not be ruled out, although I will have to wait until after the wedding next February.

Buy some Feng shui books (or Google) so you can discuss the topic intelligently, and gain her respect with some good suggestions that don't involve painting the ENTIRE thing lavender.. Or perhaps find someone who's knowledgeable about Feng Shui, perhaps someone who's also a decorator / (interior) architect, etc.

Possibly some lavender colored touches would be alright, plant lilac Petunias or other flowers in abundance, etc.

Be creative. The goal is to get a living space that everyone is comfortable in.

Whilst I don't completely understand Feng Shui, my previous wife was a believer and therefore I am no stranger to it.
I have given some suggestions to my G/F regarding placing of mirrors and water to overcome some "problem" areas. These things can all be done quite subtely, however, painting the house LILAC isn't subtle IMO.
I will take your suggestion of maybe picking out some small detail in that colour though, thanks.
BTW we already own several books on the subject.

    Regards
    Jaiyenyen

Ok I am officially considering myself very lucky. I was showing these pics to my Thai wife and she said they were all low-so people who wanted people to think they were hi-so hahaha... for the record she thought they were simply horrible. Which I kinda already knew based on our place and how she likes to decorate, but it was a relief to actually hear her say it
