British Soldier 'Kept Taliban Body Parts'

The Ministry of Defence is investigating reports that a soldier kept the fingers of dead Taliban insurgents as "souvenirs".



The Ministry of Defence has launched an investigation after allegations emerged



It is believed the soldier is a member of the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders, the 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The Regiment last served in Afghanistan between September 2010 and April of this year.
They were based in Helmand Province, where they were heavily involved with training local police.
The allegations are now being examined by the MoD's special investigations branch.
A spokesman said: "This is a very serious allegation and it would be wrong for us to comment. An investigation is ongoing."
In July 2010 a Ghurka soldier was ordered back to the UK after he cut off the head of a dead Taliban commander.
The incident happened after his unit was told they must prove they had killed the right man.

In July 2010 a Ghurka soldier was ordered back to the UK after he cut off the head of a dead Taliban commander.
The incident happened after his unit was told they must prove they had killed the right man.

That would seem fairly logical to a ghurka. They should have been a bit more explicit and given him a digital camera.

quite common during the bush war between south africa and the angolans and cubans iin angola in '76.
many of the guys would keep a finger or an ear as a souvenir- plenty of the army "garry's" (landrovers) had a rotting finger on the keyring.

btw:

plenty was said at the time about south africa's presence in angola at the time, but nobody seems to question the fact that when it ended, there seemed to be no prisoners of war left to release (by either side)
we had a few tame ones in a cage that we wouyld taunt and spit on from time to time, but it seems there was no real policy on either side regarding prisoners of war.

...never got the chance to take a finger or an ear for myself, tho- they were in great demand as fashion accessories at the time!

---- During the VN war I complained to an American Colonel and a VN general about a rogue VN commando who had cut off the ear of a young draft dodger. He was put on a helicopter and sent to Saigon. When they arrived he wasn't there anymore.
