Bullfighter in intensive care after severe goring

One of Spain's most famous matadors was in stable condition in intensive care Sunday, a day after being severely gored during a bullfight in Mexico, Spain's official news agency reported.

Video from the bullfight at central Mexico's Plaza de Aguascalientes shows Jose Tomas being carried out of the ring, his left thigh soaked in blood after the bull he was fighting upended him and tossed him several feet.

Tomas required reconstructive surgery to his femoral artery and vein after the bull's horns tore through his leg, the EFE news agency reported.

"[Tomas] remains sedated, is on ventilation, and is stable in the ICU of the hospital to which he was admitted [in Mexico]," his medical team said Sunday, according to EFE.

EFE said Tomas' condition "is very delicate, though he no longer fears for his life."

A sick sport and tells a lot about any society that people could enjoy watching an animal die a slow death in agony. I hope the grim reaper visits this man in the hospital.

Never very brave as these ass holes just finish off a usually very weakened animal close to death. looks like they had not suck in quite enough of those spears or whatever they call them before Mr brave and famous started his work, nice one Mr bull.

Nice to see a bullfight! Haven't seen one live in too many years. Another box to tick before finally heading to LOS. A great spectacle, just don't buy the cheap seats!

The reaction of the crowd always gets me, especially when they express their displeasure at the various component parts before the matador enters to do his thing, or not, as in this case!
