It is easy to see that a woman’s human rights are violated when a government requires her to wrap her body and face in an all-concealing veil, as the Taliban used to do when it ran Afghanistan. It should be just as easy to see the violation when a French parliamentary panel recommends, as it did this week, barring women who wear such veils — the burqa and the niqab — from using public services, including schools, hospitals and public transportation. (Muslim head scarves have been banned from public school classrooms since 2004.)
People must be free to make these decisions for themselves, not have them imposed by governments or enforced by the police.
Instead of condemning the recommendation, President Nicolas Sarkozy seems determined to outdo it. He already has declared that full-body veils are “not welcome” in France. His party’s leader in Parliament wants to pass a law that bans women wearing burqas and niqabs from the streets. The Taliban would be pleased. The rest of the world should declare its revulsion.
Unfortunately, French politicians seem willfully blind to the violation of individual liberties. With regional elections scheduled for March, Mr. Sarkozy and his allies are desperately looking for ways to deflect public anger over high unemployment. It is hard to produce jobs and far too easy to fan anti-Muslim prejudices.
France has more than five million Muslim residents, the most of any Western European country. Fewer than 2,000 are said to wear full-body veils, posing no obvious threat to French identity or security. But because they are so few, they make a temptingly cheap electoral target.

The first five books of the Koran are the same as the first five books of the Bible ( Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy). So whichever genius you've borrowed your quotes from above has rather defeated his own case, because four of the above quotes are lifted from the Bible.

I like this from sura 4, such a beautiful religion :)
But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits will be admitted to a Fire, to abide therein: And they shall have a humiliating punishment.
I don't know how a surah compares to a chapter, at all. I do know that the Torah/ Pentateuch/ first five bible chapters are contained in the Koran- or copied, if you prefer, because the Koran is supposedly more recent. To be honest, I find this whole excercise of cut n pasting blood curdling quotes from archaic texts of dubious integrity beyond stoopid. The one you've quoted above seems identical to a favoured quote of fire and brimstone Irish Catholic Priests, but you really don't think I can be arsed looking that up do you?
I mean, the Hebrew scriptures were first compiled in ancient Hebrew, at which time the written language was totally vague and primitive. The Koran was, supposedly written down from Mohammeds revelations by his disciples, in Arabic. And now we are likely to compare modern translations of them in English. Of course in the meantime, there have been all the Holy committee's and schisms- and really, what comparison is left with the 'originals' is highly open to question. Oh, but of course it is the word of God. Well maybe he should hire better interpreters.
well WHERE are the five books from the Bible then if you 'know' never mind cut and paste, did you expect me to type that shit out by hand?, you obviously have no idea about what the koran contains. You admit not even knowing the koran is composed of suras, why not read the bloody thing before pretending to 'know' something about it??
sounds like hell.Quote:

Another example: one of the Gulf States is trying to enact a "Family Law". This essentially says that if a Muslim man decides to abandon his wife (and possibly children) - not uncommon, sadly - she will actually be entitled to decent maintenance, child support, etc.. Currently it's almost the reverse of the UK, where women get your house, money, kidney and testicle. You know, a sort of "equal rights" act.
The man can basically tell her to f*** off and just walk away.
Naturally the local mullahs were up in arms about this. "Only God can decide" and other such pitiful nonsense.
Pictured the next day? Four women outside the ministry, fully blacked out, holding up placards saying "we do not want your family law".
Presumably the full burkahs were to cover up the bruises they got when they said "but we don't want to"....
:deadhorsebig:
Perfect verse, IMO.Quote:

PM says man with 'burqa' wife has NO place in France !! (wish it was Europe)
(AFP) – 7 hours ago
PARIS — France's prime minister said Wednesday he would sign a decree refusing French nationality to a man who forced his wife to wear the full Islamic veil, arguing he "has no place in our country."
The case has arisen amid a fierce national debate about what it means to be French, with the government seeking to legislate for a ban on the head-to-toe burqa on the grounds that it is incompatible with French values.
Prime Minister Francois Fillon told Europe 1 radio that he would sign the decree issued by Immigration Minister Eric Besson.
"It's French law," Fillon said. "The civil code has for a very long time provided that naturalisation could be refused to someone who does not respect the values of the (French) republic.
"This case is about a religious radical: he imposes the burqa, he imposes the separation of men and women in his own home, and he refuses to shake the hands of women.
"If this man does not want to change his attitude, he has no place in our country. In any case, he does not deserve French nationality."
The man's name and nationality have not been made public, although Fillon said his wife was French and she could continue to wear the full veil, if she wants, pending legislation.
The decision came after a parliament report last week called for a ban on the burqa in schools, hospitals, government offices and public transport.
The French government is seeking legal advice before drafting legislation that would outlaw the burqa or niqab in as many areas as possible.
President Nicolas Sarkozy has declared the burqa "not welcome" in secular France and is in favour legislation to outlaw it, though he has also warned against stigmatising Muslims.
According to the interior ministry, only around 1,900 women wear the burqa in France, which is home to Europe's biggest Muslim minority.
Justice Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said last month that Muslim men who forced their wives to wear the full veil should not be granted citizenship.
Besson said Tuesday that during checks into the man's application, he had explicitly stated that he would never allow his wife to go out without a full veil and that he believed that a woman "is an inferior being."
Two years ago a French court denied citizenship to a veiled Moroccan woman on the grounds her "radical" practice of Islam was not compatible with French values.
A recent survey showed 57 percent of French people were in favour of a law banning the burqa.
Marine Le Pen, the deputy leader of the far-right National Front, said men who forced their wife to wear the full veil should be put on trial, convicted and expelled from the country.
In contrast, the leftist New Anticapitalist Party (NPA) said it was putting forward a candidate in March regional elections who wears a "light veil."
In a statement, the NPA said the woman concerned was "a militant feminist, anticapitalist and internationalist who believes she must wear the veil in accordance with her religions convictions."
The wider debate over national identity has divided society, with critics arguing it is fomenting anti-foreigner and anti-Muslim sentiment and is little more than a grab for far-right votes ahead of the March poll.
Fillon said his government would hold a seminar next Monday to consider its conclusions from the debate.
The husband is Moroccan, according to the beeb,
This will undoubtedly cause a lot of debate, personally i think this direction of the french is the correct one, if people are not going to intergrate and want to form seperate societies within a free and open society, then they have no place being there.
Will GB and the rest of europe follow suit ?, remains to be seen.
This situation is sad, the frogs having more minerals than the brits.
And the winner of the Ironic statement of the year award is... :1st:Quote:

France Denies Citizenship to Man With Veiled Muslim Wife

PARIS —
French authorities have denied citizenship to a man who forced his French wife to wear a face-covering veil, saying he had rejected national values of secularism and gender equality.
The government has been speaking out strongly against head-to-toe veils, and is moving toward banning them in public after a long public debate over French national identity in the age of globalization.
Critics call the face-covering veil a gateway to extremism, but the move to ban it has drawn fierce criticism from some of France's five million Muslims, who say such restrictions are based in fear and intolerance of Islam.
President Nicolas Sarkozy has called the veils degrading to women and unwelcome in France. Sarkozy, a law-and-order conservative whose relations with the Muslim community have often been fraught, has been a vocal proponent of an all-out ban on the burqa, niqab and other face-covering Muslim veils.
Opposition leftist parties have slammed Sarkozy's focus on the veil, which is believed to be worn by only several thousand women in France. Critics contend the issue is a political ploy to divert attention from more substantial issues and aimed at far-right voters ahead of regional elections next month.
Little is known about the man denied citizenship or his wife, as neither have been identified. News reports said the man is a Moroccan citizen and a member of the hard-line Tabligh missionary movement.
Immigration Minister Eric Besson said Wednesday the decision was rooted in French law, which permits authorities to reject applicants who fail to respect national values.Prime Minister Francois Fillon, who has the final say, has pledged to approve Besson's order.
Besson's office said the man's application was rejected because officials had determined that he had deprived his wife of the freedom to go about with her face uncovered.
"It was nearly a caricature because the person said: 'my wife will never be able to go out without the full veil; I don't believe in gender equality; women have inferior status; I will not respect the principles of the secular society,'" he told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.
Besson stressed that the decision does not mean the man will be deported, and he will be allowed to remain in France on his current long-term visa.
Muslim leaders reacted cautiously to Besson's announcement, with some condemning the man's behavior.
"I don't believe it's good practice to aspire to French naturalization when you reject our fundamental values, the core principles of the republic, notably the secular nature of the country," Chems-Eddine Hafiz, the vice president of the CFCM, an umbrella organization of French Muslim groups, told Associated Press Television News.
If Fillon signs the decree, it would not be France's first burqa-related denial of citizenship. In 2008, authorities rejected the application of a fully veiled Moroccan woman on the grounds that she was not sufficiently assimilated into French society.
She appealed, but France's highest body, the Council of State, upheld the decision. That same body is now studying the possible legal framework for a ban on wearing burqas and other face-covering garments on the street.
In 2004, France banned the Muslim headscarf and other "ostentatious" religious signs in primary and secondary schools.
Christophe Bertossi, an academic who specializes in citizenship issues at France's IFRI think-tank, said he assumed the man in the new case would also appeal and if he does, it's unclear what Council of State might decide.
"We're entering potentially dangerous territory," he said. "We are getting into a mindset in which the state determines and provides the criteria upon which people must believe what they believe and wear the clothes they must wear."
When headscarves were to banned in schools there was talk of Muslim outrage and protests, but when the ban was enforced... nothing happened, they all went along with it. The same will happen with this, the talk of protest and outcry is the Islamic public voice, that's what it has to say, but when it comes down to individual freedoms, I can't see many women protesting in the street that they want to put the Burkha back on.

Transparent burka - Ghent photographer Filip Naudts will soon open the exhibition ‘La clé du boudoir' (the key to the bedroom), featuring famous Flemish people. Naudts: This photo is not meant in any way as a statement. I do not want to provoke anybody, not offend anybody's feelings, but I will not curtail my artistic freedom.
