I actually saw a show, or read a story, very similar to that. But, few people have the millions required to inflict self loathing damage such as this guy did.

which explains why the guy was a "house" player, with very little odds to win, he wasn't interested in making money, he was on a ego trip, probably numb from years of frustrations, needed a wake up call. And he got one

They call it The Red Queen in gambling circles. Sooner or later just about every gambler goes down the tubes. In the states, house PC's being what they are, the odds are heavily in the casino's favor. Only odds in the house in a player's favor are on the craps table, pass and no pass and they are barely in the player's favor. Even in the "private" poker games, at least two players are working for the house, playing with house money.

Got a mate who works in Macau so coincided a visa run with weekend on the beer with him, it really is amazing to see the chinese queing up to give away their money.

Forgive me any innacuracies here on the figures because they were told to me after a couple of beers, but my mate (who works as an engineer for one of the Casinos), said that the one he works at is 7 floors, two of which are being refurbished at any one time. The business cost $900 Million to set up and the loan was paid off in 2.5 years. There are various differnet games being played but the main was High/Low before overheads were taken out each table could expect to take in the region of $5000 a night and there were 200 tables on each floor.

Why? He never had to give any of it to charity, it was his money to do with as he wished.

How much have you spent on drink and going out over the past year? I'm sure whatever the amount, it would be viewed as vulgar by some, it's all relative, you should have given all of that money to charity instead.

don't disagree, it would be used more efficiently, I am actually looking at different charities and hope to give some money to them that would force me not to spend it all on stupid shit, including bars.

I used to like Las Vegas in small doses.
The veneer wears thin after 2-3 days.
If you're gonna gamble it a great place to do it. The state has very tight controls on the gaming. For players Vegas is a pretty good deal.
You have to realize that every small detail in those casinos is designed to make it easier to separate you from your money.
With some discipline a fellow can come out ahead, but it's not easy and it gets real boring real quick.
