Man to face court over murder of Australian in Antigua

A MAN charged over the shooting death of an Australian in the Caribbean will face court tomorrow.

Drew Gollan, of NSW, was walking with his partner Alena Sitkova and their 21-month-old daughter Carolina, when he was shot in the chest at close range at English Harbour, Antigua, on January 22.

Mr Gollan had chased a man after Ms Sitkova was shot in the foot as they left a restaurant.

The 38-year-old skipper of luxury 50-metre sailing yacht Perseus was the suspected victim of a mugging, a spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said.

Antigua police have not yet disclosed a possible motive for his murder, but today said Sylvester Lindsey, 21, was due to face murder charges in relation to the incident.

A court hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow.

The Antigua Sun newspaper reported yesterday that three men and a woman aged between 19 and 27 were assisting police with investigations into the shooting.

Mr Gollan, a former Sydney man, was expected to be buried at Hervey Bay in Queensland, where he once ran whale watching tours and where he and Ms Sitkova had planned to settle on their return to Australia, the Seven Network has reported.

It was not clear when his body would be returned to Australia.
