Police in the US city of Joplin, Missouri, said they arrested a Thai tourist on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.

The Joplin Globe newspaper identified the man as Sira Noitip, 36, who was reportedly living in Joplin as a tourist.

Joplin police said they arrested Sira last Thursday "following a sting involving the Joplin Police Cyber Crimes" department.

He is likely to be turned over to US federal officials next week, police said, where he faces trial, a prison sentence and deportation.

Police did not state what type of pornographic materials were recovered at Sira’s residence, or the manner in which he is alleged to have distributed them.

A 36-year-old Thai national is awaiting transfer to federal authorities after Joplin police raided his home and allegedly found photographs and computer files depicting child pornography.

Sira Noitip, of 2408 E. 10th St. in Joplin, was arrested Thursday in a sting carried out by the Joplin cyber crimes detective.

Several copies of photos, as well as videos and more pictures stored on a computer recovered at the residence, were seized in the search of Noitip’s home, according to Joplin police Lt. Michael Hobson.

Hobson said the city’s cyber detective reportedly made contact with Noitip, a Thai national staying in America on a tourist visa, about five weeks ago on a Web site, where he allegedly offered to trade and distribute child pornography with the undercover officer.

“He claimed not to know there was anything wrong with it,” Hobson said. “Of course we have criminals claim that all the time.”

Noitip is expected to be in custody at the city jail until Monday, at which time he will likely be remanded to federal authorities and transported to Springfield for an appearance before a federal magistrate.

A Thai man was busted in Joplin, Missouri, yesterday on charges of possessing and distributing child pornorgraphy.

After a five week undercover investigation conducted jointly by the Joplin Cyber Crimes Unit, Barry County Sheriff's Deparment, and the Cassville Police Department, 36 year-old Sira Noitip was arrested at his Joplin residence.

According to Crime Scene Investigation Blog, the cops said that Sira is in the United States on a Tourist Visa and that officers with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have placed a detainer on Sira.

A news release from the Joplin Police Department said that the United States Attorney's Office in Springfield is in the process of filing federal child porn charges against Noitip as well.

Noitip is scheduled to be transferred to federal custody next Monday, the blog said.

I kind of have to believe that a thai man, didn't know that there was anything wrong with abusing children. It seems to be a fact of life in Thailand.
