Interesting to know why you have the complete opposite opinion of them than nearly everyone else who has flown with them.
They probably told him off for trying to flash his new phone at everyone.

I think one of the trolley dolly guys spurned Betty's advances.

My brother had only good things to say about etihad and their pick up and drop off to hotel inclusion

    This is not the case.

Living in the Middle East, I can assure you that folks living/working in the region avoid Etihad, they are awful; awful food, awful customer service, cramped planes, awful delays - I have had all of these problems. They are the worst airline I've flown with in this region, by some distance. I have chatted about this to folks that have lived in the region for 20+ years, and I've yet to meet anybody that likes the airline...

Their 'Skytrax' reviews dont seem so bad.
Eva Air was my preffered airline for LHR - BKK but their prices have jumped up from £1600.00 to £2200, so now i fish around for a better deal.
Interestingly, this time i enquired on a First class, business class, specialist, they quoted as the best deal £1839.00 with Etihad, i looked at the Etihad site, didnt book but 24 hrs later was offered from Etihad the flight i have booked, £200.00 cheaper.

^ if you're going business or first then all airlines are pretty good, so hopefully it'll work out well for you.

I had a horrible delay from Heathrow to AbuDhabi which meant with checking in 3 hours early, etc, I was stuck in the airport for 8 hours; the airline gave me a 10 pound food voucher... They had left my connection at AbuDhabi to expire too, blaming me for their flight (connecting to their onward flight...) be 5 hours late... So, there I was at Abu Dhabi at 3am, no food, no hotel, nothing at all from Etihad... The other time I flew with them, they were worse!

I think Ethiad are great, but I've never flown with them, so they've done nothing to temper my opinion of them.

Before I flew with them, I thought they'd be really good - alas not! The food on the trip from AD to LHR (I also did the 50 minute hops to Muscat), was the worst food I'd ever eaten on a flight! In fact, I couldn't eat it... I was starving when I got to London...

Locally, I've flown Oman many times and Qatar a couple of times; both are much better than Etihad.

I LIKE Etihad, most of times they upgrade me to business class. For a couple of years they have the premium economy now with more legroom or just less legroom at normal economy, well as frequent traveler i am upgraded to the better most times.

Thai was doing same, if frequent flyer, plane full, business class for me...

Singapore or Cathay are great toooooo....

Swiss is OK or good now, Lufthansa or British, hmm i avoid. Can add KLM and Air France to avoid, smaller seats, lazy service.

    Turkish is ok as well.
Monday,Tuesday, then it goes WTF !

The worst Gulf airline for economy has to be Gulf Air, I'm sorry. They are not only absolute shite but ridiculously understaffed.

Even in Business it takes them 3+ hours to complete a meal service.

Spain’s $1.4B ‘Ghost Airport’ In Ciudad Real On Sale For Just $140M

    December 10 2013

It cost one billion euros ($1.4 billion) to build, boasts Europe’s longest runway, and has a vast terminal building that can handle as many as 10 million travelers per year, but Aeropuerto Central Ciudad Real hasn’t seen a single commercial flight since 2011.

A larger-than-life symbol of Spain’s real-estate bubble, the nation’s first private international airport hit the auction block Monday with a starting price of just 100 million euros ($140 million), one-tenth the cost of construction.

Terminal operator CR Aeropuertos went into bankruptcy three years ago and announced in recent weeks that it would sell the airport complex under a liquidation plan. It began accepting bids on Monday to meet creditor demands, but interested parties have less than three weeks to make an offer before bids close on Dec. 27.

Formerly known as both Don Quijote Airport and South Madrid Airport, the Ciudad Real complex is one of several “ghost airports” that dot the Spanish countryside. Other facilities opened in recent years, like the airport at Castellon on the Mediterranean coast, have yet to see a single flight.

You were lucky. In my day we were happy if we were offered one oar instead of two. Bloody Row-Row ferries.

I have a question. How do you rate Vietnam Airlines?

We have just been in the Philippines this last summer. But with the earthquake that rattled the families home my wife is at least thinking of going again early next year. We would need to go the cheapest and that is Vietnam Air at 687Euro Frankfurt-Manila via Hanoi.

I would think of a 2-3 day stopover in Hanoi. Need to look up hotel prices there.

A quick google search reveals some shocking tales of that airline

Customer service is not in this airlines vocabulary. Planes are old and tired
Flew Ho Chi Minh to Frankfurt, 4 Oct on Boeing 777 200 series in business class. Although seats are a little on the old side, the were reasonably comfortable. The inflight entertainment system did not work and only one film offered on the main screen which is not acceptable in business class!
Flew from London to HCM Deluxe Economy. The flight was a nightmare and not what I expected. The deluxe economy was absolutely not worth the difference. Cramped, and the cabin temperature was so hot it was hard to breath
I'd fork out some more dough on a better airline if i were you Takeovers

    Thanks Dillinger

I will have a look at your link.

We don't expect much in service. But it really looks bleak. I will consider flying them when I really plan to go to Vietnam, not just as a stopover.

    Takeovers,

Some advice, think about booking to BKK or even HKG if Cebu Pacific or some discount airline flies out of those points, I know Cebu flies into BKK. So the cheapest rt Germany Bangkok, then buy another super cheap ticket. BKK Manila RT. Make any sense?

Just checked march of next year, year round price 3500 baht RT, promo fare 1700, google cebu pacific direct.

Did you price up Qatar and Etihad to Clark via the Middle East?

I haven't done any serious research yet. That Vietnam Airlines price is the cheapest that we got from the travel agent, we usually use. But he offers a lot of airlines. It is only an idea at this time. It is just my wife anxious about her family. Also she is quite busy with her filipino dance group in a number of activities raising donations for earthquake victims on Bohol. And we don't really know what organisation to give the money to. If we are there she would know how to distribute it bypassing the government and the church and any other organization.

It's not really likely we will go. Of course we would go on our own money, not donations.

Well go to Qatar Airways and Emirates (not Etihad I think) websites and price them up.

You aren't paying travel agent commission so it's usually cheaper.

Look for "Special Offers" as well if you aren't that fussed about the dates.

I believe they both fly to Frankfurt to Clark and Manila, via the Middle East, whichever is easier for you.

Thanks again, I will see. Actually if I wanted to book in advance for a predetermined date I was never able to find the price that agent offers anywhere else. If I just wait and grab offers it may be different. That's what we may try this time.

So far I also always wanted to stick to an end to end offer so I can book luggage through for convenience. With this agent I get high luggage allowances too. Usually 30kg at least in economy. Very attractive if we visit the family.
