Sydney-based children's author Oliver Phommavanh has been charged for allegedly grooming a minor online.
It is alleged the 41-year-old sent inappropriate photos and videos to someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl.
Detectives investigating sexual abuse and exploitation of children received an interstate report of Mr Phommavanh's alleged behaviour earlier this month.
The Thai-Australian was arrested on Friday morning at a home in Old Guildford, in Sydney's west, with police seizing several electronic devices.



He has been charged with using a carriage service to groom a person under 16 years old for sex and using a carriage service procure a child for sexual activity.
Detectives believe Mr Phommavanh "used his position as a children's author to engage inappropriately with children online," according to a statement from NSW Police.
Mr Phommavanh was refused police bail and faced Fairfield Local Court yesterday.
He was granted bail by a magistrate on conditions including a $5,000 security, not using or possessing any internet capable device and not entering or loitering around places of education or entertainment accessed by people under 18, such as schools, parks and shopping centres.
He must also report daily to police and not consume both alcohol and drugs.
Mr Phommavanh became a published children's author through his book Thai-Riffic! which was shortlisted for the Young Australia Best Book Awards and Kids Own Australia's Literature Awards five years in a row.
According to his website, Mr Phommavanh developed a "passion for writing with kids, using his experience as a primary school teacher".
He has been an ambassador for the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge as well as an advocate for global illiteracy and gender inequality with organisation Room to Read.
Investigations under Strike Force Trawler are continuing with Mr Phommavanh's case to return to Parramatta Local Court on July 9.
