Researchers have studied hedgehogs' encounter with the robotic lawnmower

When hedgehogs are met by a robotic lawnmower, it can end up with serious scratches.
But a research team wants to change that. The team, led by hedgehog experts from Oxford University and Aalborg University, has developed a test that can assess how dangerous the mower is for the small animals.
This is what the latter university writes in a press release, according to Ritzau.
The researchers have studied on 50 hedgehogs how they react when they encounter a robotic lawnmower.
"They either ran away from the machine, stood rigidly in front of the robotic lawnmower in a partially crumpled position, or sniffed the mower curiously," zoologist and behavioural biologist at Oxford University Sophie Lund Rasmussen told the news agency.
The second time the hedgehogs met the machine, they were more cautious.
Based on the research, the researchers have developed a safety test for manufacturers of robotic lawnmowers so that they can make more "hedgehog-friendly" models.
