Who's zoomin' who? The ill fated French/Aust submarine contract

Whilst Macron is waxing lyrical about Australian betrayal, the real story lies in the continual incompetence and gullibility of the australian department for major military procurement, how the french orchestrated a great con job and how the price ballooned to over 5 times the original tender.
This department needs a royal commission going through it.

The great French con-job is over—but at what cost? - News

...the initial miscalculation was attempting to buy submarines from self-declared surrender monkeys...

When we first bought an off the plan sub from kockums in Sweden (the name should've been a warning) I could not understand why we didn't go to our number one defence partner in the first place and buy a ready made nuclear sub fully integrated with our partners.
The kockums was a clusterf#$k that took ages and millions to get right. Then we went to a country that outside of cheese and champagne, couldn't make anything invented after the industrial revolution mechanically reliable. Much like the italians but at least the Italians build a shite product that has style and isn't pig ugly.

They'd be the only Subs on the planet with reverse-gear if they're anything like their tanks and other motorised vehicles designed to defend a country...

I don't know the full details of this deal gone bad but have seen enough bullet-points to think that like any other multi-billion dollar contract, there was a get-out clause that Australia excercised after long delays starting the project, price increases, and a realisation that these Subs would be obsolete before they got wet in an industry that evolves very quickly with technological advances. Plus they'd rather deal with long term allies like the US and Britain instead of ungrateful fucks who say Australia has done the wrong thing, while the bodies of some 50,000 Diggers who died fighting to liberate their country are buried under their feet. Fuck them, who gives a shit what the French think.
