IMO , the american way of life is not what exists bu twhat we aspire towards, and so far fall far short of.
An Ideal of a more equitable society, with freedom and justice for all.
A grand experiment to as MLK said " a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

The biggest threat to the US and the rest of the world has been the economic policy of neo-liberalism of the last 40 years, an economic ideology of the "free market" of deregulation, privatization and unfettered trade to serve the interests of the corporate world. The last 40 years of neo-liberalism has produced a corporatocracy, not a democracy, where the corporate class owns the wealth of the country, the political arena, the economy, the media and the government. In fact, 3 men own more wealth and have more power than 160 million Americans. It declared war on unions, hollowed out the middle class, widened the gap of wealth between the haves and have nots, and brought us to the brink of environmental collapse. It's a bourgeois dream come true, a form of neo-feudalism. Trump and his financiers (as well as his band of useful idiots) are but a symptom of it.
Wrong again. The deregulation of the financial market, not the federal reserve, created the financial collapse of the economy in 2008. The federal reserve only served to support the policy of market economics, in this case a corporate bailout. As economists have pointed out, the bailout was an example of corporate socialism but raw capitalism for the masses.
I agree, but as I said "the american way of life is not what exists but what we aspire towards," an aspirational, perhaps a mythological Arcadia, a shining city on a hill too far to attain but close enough to see,

Pheww,, I am running out of metaphors. LOL
The USA failed to separate the state and the church.
Sure, the media has a lot to answer for, but while great swathes of the “Bible Belt” continue to influence political will, the country will remain burdened by a populist religious group, living in the past.
Blame media and corporatism all you like but until massive chunks of Americans can be weaned off religious fervour, things will continue to get worse.
Demographics will deal with them, they are all boomers and dying off...

Incidentally, what is meant by America's "way of life"? I presume it must refer to white, middle America. My observation is/was there are many ways of life in America, and they vary greatly according to race, region, urban/ rural divide, climate, and of course wealth- or lack thereof. Actually I think it is more diverse in this regard than just about any western country. But most of America still lives in the suburbs.
How does that differ from . . . say . . . Australia?
You say so but then go on to talk about how it applies to everyoneHaving gone to school, Uni and worked in various places throughout the US what I understand the 'American Way of Life' to be is some odd notion of 'freedom', the chance to become rich - the land of opportunity (sadly the US allows the least chance of wealth accumulation) and that everyone can become president, this one seems incredibly important.
Maybe is used to be like this many moons ago - many people did leave repressive or poor countries to arrive in the US and have more freedom, more opportunity etc...
Initially I thought that Europe offers the same, if not more, but there was never a comparison by immigrants. Europe had and has its own 'Way of Life' qualities but lacks the escapist 'Hollywood' to drive home this illusion.
...aside from a few cultural generalizations that might apply to a number of other locations, there is no American way of life...much depends on individual personalities and a large variety of factors, including the immigrant community an individual is descended from where "freedom" is constricted or expanded depending on upbringing...the ven diagram that produces the intersection among evangelicals, white supremacists and older folks reflects a number of ways of life all or in part based on tradition, religion, and even modest wealth. The need to create an "other" produces a tRump, a Karen and a Falwell...each with different American ways of life. Such cultural monsters can and do arise elsewhere regardless of a particular "way of life"...
Majestically enthroned amid the vulgar herd
It doesn't- last I knew Australia was the most urbanised country in the world. But I don't see aussie suburbanites dressing up like, say, croc dundee and bemoaning their lost way of life, or talking about insurrection. Just a few bigots complaining about immigration. How does that differ from . . . say . . . Australia?
As a university economics major I applaud you for your use of the term 'disequilibrium', though it isn't wholly appropriate i this context but I bow to your seven hours of community college studies on Latvian exchange rate cycles.
Clearly it is a disequilibrium of neo-Malthusian and post-Jacobinism boomer free market discombobulation . . .
