The thinking further on, when a fireworks warehouse blows up (as has happened many times before) all the fireworks do not go up simultaneously, no some go off and a few seconds later others go off and the process randomly continues for a while until it burns itself out. If we were taking about a expertly made 500kg ammonium nitrate bomb set off with a blasting cap correctly positioned then I would expect the whole thing to go up at once, but 2700 tons? Surely multiple detonators would be required???
As a side note... if the story of Oklahoma is to be believed who come Tim McVeigh managed to pull off such destruction at the first attempt.
