US neocons (including bolton) and israel have been itching for the US to get into open conflict with iran for years....it seems like they just might get it.
btw, it was "intelligence" from israel that prompted the US to heat up the rhetoric and move the aircraft carrier.
if you're going to add the word "protracted", then yeah, nobody wants that in any conflict...but as i posted, among US neocons, israel and KSA, the best (and in their view, inevitable) option is for the US to be open conflict with iran.
btw, they now refer to themselves as "neo-neoconservatives" or "post-neoconservatives", and they've taken up high-level cabinet positions in the trump administration and influential perches in the media---NYT, the atlantic, etc...
most probably it is just showboating at this point....but these things can get out of hand quickly....and with someone like trump in the WH, the potential for disaster is higher than it would have been in the past.
that won't stop the nutters at the Pentagon, and since when do they care what others are saying or thinking?
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/...litary-1306782The situation has escalated swiftly since Trump designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization last month, a move some top Pentagon officials warned could lead to retaliation by Iran or its proxies against the United States and its allies, including Israel. The rising tensions are now sparking fears that a sudden move on either side, even if unintended, could spiral into a military conflict.
“It’s a standard part of the Iranian playbook: Under pressure, you don’t give in, you don’t submit, you strike back,” said Suzanne Maloney, an Iran scholar at the Brookings Institution.
Like others, however, Maloney expressed concern about the rhetoric coming from the White House, where hawkish national security adviser John Bolton, who has a track record of calling for the overthrow of the Iranian regime, has been a main architect of the tougher policy.
Regional experts are also keeping a close eye on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, a former lawmaker who harbors intense dislike for the Iranian regime. Pompeo and Bolton are believed to be more willing to do at least limited battle with Iran than Trump
btw, this morning (EST), pompeo cancelled a meeting with merkel because of "pressing issues".
You have to laugh at Americans calling for the overthrow of the Iranian regime when they are largely responsible for the mad mullahs being in power.
Here we go again.
When ya want a war use the old feed out a bit of "credible intellegence" to the masses gambit. Followed by a stream of more egregious activity supported by credible intellegence culminating in a threat to the life and well being of every American.
The end game of the gambit is to have an incident which must have a strong response.
Send out the Navy to confront the bad guys. A confrontation sure to result in an incident justifying a miiitary response.
The effectiveness of this gambit is historically proven.
Remember the USS Maine and USS Maddox!
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"
So far there's only speculation from inspired sources with different agendas, though the best clue that the intl community have 'credible' intel that Iran is on the verge of developing usable nukes will be when Saudi tools up, probably from Pakistan, followed by others in the region. Then it's anyone's guess not if but who kicks it off.
But for now no Saudi nukes, so no serious Iranian threat despite hopeful gossips.
Care to list where the "de escalated American involvement" is occurring?
Currently the "unexceptional country north of Mexico" is in armed conflict in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. It is in political conflict similarly. It is in trade conflict in Asia, Europe and South America. It is in black conflict, worldwide.
So no, there is no de-escalation, actually more conflict than the prior leader of the regime.
Possibly Oz and NZ, but as they are still British colonies they don't count.

A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
Don't fret lads, if there is anything happening on the Iran invasion front I'll know about it before you do, and I'll let you know.
BTW, why we never hear/read about WMD? Don't the nukes belong in that class?
Or is it that we had heard/read a lot about WMD some 19 years ago, better to call it now differently?
For all you muslim Lovers out there this might sound harsh.
Yes, this is about Israel !
Yes, this is about the Middle East !
Yes, the "others" will not leave the M.E. in the hands of ANY towel heads.
More then 600 rockets hit Israel last week. Guess Iran is going to have to pay for that.
Check-Bin
Oh wonderful, more gas price hikes on the horizon. But with Russia lending a helping hand it might get the Chickenhawks to BTFO for a change.
