Islamic Terror strikes again in France

(CNN)At least 18 people were killed in shootings in central Paris late Friday, CNN affiliate BFMTV reported.

The network reported there was a hostage situation at one of the three sites where shootings took place. BFMTV said the ongoing hostage situation was at a theater named Bataclan.
There was a lockdown at the Stade de France due to possible explosions, according to French media. President Francois Hollande was at the stadium, watching France playing world champions Germany in a friendly soccer match, but he left to go to the Interior Ministry.
Police were outside the scene of one of the shootings, a restaurant in the 10th District.

Lylia Melkonian, a reporter for France 2, told CNN the neighborhood has many restaurants that were packed with patrons. Melkonian said authorities were evacuating the area.
A witness told BFMTV that firefighters were on the scene to treat the injured.
In early January of this year, two gunmen attacked the Paris offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 and wounding 11.
Said and Cherif Kouachi wanted to punish the magazine for the publication of cartoons that they believed mocked the Prophet Mohammed. The Kouachi brothers two days later were shot and killed in a standoff with police in Dammartin-en-Goele.
Amedy Coulibaly, an associate of Said and Cherif Kouachi, attacked a Jewish grocery store in Paris, taking more than a dozen people hostage and killing four. Coulibaly had killed a policewoman the day before, on January 8. Couliably was killed when police stormed the kosher market.

I even heard the explosion while I was watching the football match France-Germany.
Not a good sign for the UEFA EURO 2016 Chamipionship.

I heard two explosions but it was said there were three. I did not look the whole game. The reporter said he could feel the ground shake. The game continued though for the full time.

During the day there had been a bomb warning at the hotel of the german team. The hotel was evacuated for several hours but no bomb found. Possibly unrelated.

No proof yet of islamic involvement but who would think otherwise?

Still many spectators in the stadion. Afraid to get out. Most exits blocked, maybe all now.

    Surreal!

The transmission continues. A mix of sports news, mainly football and news of the terror attacks. Though they don't use the word terrorism yet.

100 dead in attack on Paris

Breaking news of about 100 dead in attack on Paris concert venue.

#Paris Beaumarchais. proche #Bataclan poste de secours avancé. des blésses évacués vers hopitaux toute les minutes.

President Francois Hollande gave a live address on French TV, speaking of "unprecedented attacks in progress in Greater Paris".

"It's a horror," he said. “Two decisions will be taken: a state of emergency will be decreed which means certain places will be closed, traffic may be banned and searches may also take place throughout the Paris region.

“The second decision I have taken is to close the borders. We must guarantee that no one can come in to commit any act. And at the same time those who may have committed crimes can be arrested if they try to leave the country.”

“I have decided that we should mobilise all the forces we have to enable the neutralisation of the terrorists and to put in place security in all areas that could be concerned.

"I have also asked for military reinforcements. They are at this moment in the Greater Paris area to ensure no further attack takes place.”

He spoke of his thoughts for the “very numerous victims, their families, the wounded” and appealed for compassion and solidarity.

France had to display "sang-froid" in responding to "terrorism", the president said.

“What the terrorists want is to scare us,” he added.

This is bad news, but I am afraid things are only going to get worse. Makes me wonder why, when the average Joe knows allowing the influx of immigrants who damand things their way, the politicians seem to welcome it! Screw political correctness, look after your own!

You seriously need to give your head a fucking wobble mate.

You're a septic, therefore by your logic you must also accept that should you or your US family happen to get killed in an Islamist attack you'd deserve to die for your governments actions, actions which you may have even been completely against?

You're a "Thai", therefore by your logic if you/your Thai family happened to get killed in an attack by Southern insurgents you'd accept that you/they deserved it?

If so, you're even more strange and warped than I'd thought mate.

Exactly these people have no place in Europe. You it will get worse you can bank on it. Merkel is a criminal and should be put on trial.

Aside from anything else Jeff, you/we have no idea yet as to the nationality or religious/political affiliation of any of the (so far) reported 140 dead. Many could be from an Islamic background themselves, or from a country which has in no way shape or form attacked any Muslim nation.

"Comes around" about 140 innocents killed by fanatical scumbags? What a fucking prick you really are.

Here is Reuters’ translation of François Hollande’s address from around 11pm on Friday evening (UK time):

    My dear compatriots,

As I speak, terrorist attacks of unprecedented proportions are under way in the Paris area. There are dozens killed, there are many injured. It is a horror.

We have, on my decision, mobilised all forces possible to neutralise the terrorists and make all concerned areas safe. I have also asked for military reinforcements. They are currently in the Paris area, to ensure that no new attack can take place. I have also called a cabinet meeting that will be held in a few minutes.

Two decisions will be taken: a state of emergency will be declared, which means that some places will be closed, traffic may be banned and there will also be searches which may be decided throughout Ile de France (greater Paris). The state of emergency will be proclaimed throughout the territory (of France).

The second decision I have made is to close the borders. We must ensure that no one enters to commit any crimes and that those who have committed the crimes that we have unfortunately seen can also be arrested if they should leave the territory.

This is a terrible ordeal which once again assails us. We know where it comes from, who these criminals are, who these terrorists are.

In these difficult moments, we must - and I’m thinking of the many victims, their families and the injured - show compassion and solidarity. But we must also show unity and calm.

Faced with terror, France must be strong, it must be great and the state authorities must be firm. We will be.

We must also call on everyone to be responsible.

What the terrorists want is to scare us and fill us with dread. There is indeed reason to be afraid. There is dread, but in the face of this dread, there is a nation that knows how to defend itself, that knows how to mobilise its forces and, once again, will defeat the terrorists.

French citizens, we have not completed the operations. There are still some that are extremely difficult. It’s at this moment that the security forces are staging an assault, especially in a place in Paris.

I ask you to keep all your trust in what we can do with the security forces to protect our nation from terrorist acts.

Long live the Republic and long live France.

As far as I can make out from French news, there were 7 separate incidents across Paris, of which the concert at the Bataclan was the most devastating. The death toll is varying between reports with as many as 140 dead in some and over a 100 in all the early morning ones. It seems the storming of the Bataclan at around 00:40 may have be a little unprepared....

Only joking about staying in Paris this week-end a couple of days ago, following the Lufthansa strike. One of my favourite cities of the World and one I shall intend to visit again and again despite these horrors...(less than a year since the last one).

R.I.P to those that lost their lives tonight...one hopes it doesn't get diluted into a Friday 13th episode...

...and let's not turn this into a religious hatred thing...please...
