    Second bangkok bomb

    This afternoon, about 1.30

A bomb thrown at Bangkok’s Sathorn pier Tuesday but caused a explosion but no injuries or damage.

Witnesses reported that an explosive device was hurled at approximately 1.20pm from the Sathorn bridge near a parking lot for pickup truck taxis, bounced into the water and exploded there.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The pier remains open.

Whew! This poster was just crossing the Krung Tong bridge at about the same time today. Traffic was the usual madness down there.

Funnily enough (although not funny at all), I was chatting to a friend last night who lives in Nontaburi, and I was gonna say that she should come into Bkk by boat if at all, but then I thought that a bomb or something similar on a boat would be even easier to accomplish and potentially more devastating, so I didn't make the suggestion...

Looking at the video of the young person who took off the rucksack and walked off; if that was the bomb - how easy would that be to do on a ChaoPhraya boat, at peaktime when they're rammed; just leaving a rucksack under a seat and getting off.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

thais are not aware or on the look out for unattended parcels and bags in public places, although they might be after yesterdays tragedy.

an unattended bag in a public place in the uk or in europe would probably be noticed within minutes.

You would think so, but not so sure in UK now. I know I grew up in an era when we were paranoid about left bags, for good reason.

Last year or so at the end of my UK trip, I was checking in at Heathrow. It was one of those single queue, go to next open desk. When my turn came, at the desk there was a bag that had been left by whoever had checked in prior to me. I told the check in girlie about the bag, she came round to the front , said thank you and then picked it up and put it behind the counter with her.

I debated with myself for a while, and when she had finished checking me in, said to her "its none of my business, but you really should not do that with unattended bags". She look surprised and said "oh, yes, I suppose I had better inform some one".

This was at the bloody airport, where of all places you would expect them to be right on the ball!

I had the pleasure of using the Uk's rail network from a small station all the way to London and the tube thereafter on Saturday. There were constant reminders regarding the consequences of left baggage. I'm fairly certain a rucksack or any other article would be picked up on pretty quick

How easy would it be to do anywhere in Thailand or any place on this Earth ?

    Jesus,

So easy to bomb any place if determined and bent enough.

In places where the materials are available and not controlled or monitored, then yes; and in places where chaos and corruption is normal, the risks are escalated. Thailand is possibly quite vulnerable to a serious incident, moreso than other places, because of its large amounts of western tourism, and lack of capacity to manage the security aspect; and then how are ambulances and stuff going to get to and from a scene in that traffic?

Given the nightmare traffic at rush hour in Bangkok the Emergency services are not going anywhere.

Bangkok has not got a monopoly on that problem. Most Asian and many western countries have the same problem.

The police hospital was right next door to the scene thankfully. Here it is on the right, had some of its windows blown out.

given the history of ganades being tossed around in bangkok from time to time over 'business' disputes, I would be suprised if this werre connected with the bombing at the shrine

As state hospitals go, that one is not too bad. Than managed to patch up a distant relative of the better half with very serious head injuries, I was convinced he was going to die. I guess ist the only silver lining in the whole sorry tale

I think it might have been a close call. From what I have read, it was thrown, then bounced off into the water where it exploded.

Might have been a very different scenario if it had not exploded in the water...

Reports on Channel 3 are alluding to it being a 'tall foreigner' wearing a yellow shirt that dropped the second 'bomb'.

I agree.... this one at Sathorn strikes me as someone reacting to the previous nights events reacting to what he perceived as a bomb attack by his political opposites.

I think he got lucky that it caused no loss of life because he would feel very guilty if it turns out that the bomb at Rachaprasong was nothing to do with the political divide in this country......

The claims by some Policeman that it was definitely the same people is just dumb......

I don't know - I am of the opinion that both these attacks are directed at the military/ bureaucratic establishment and are perpetrated by radical student groups who have decided this is the time to start a campaign to destabilise

Yes. Only partly exploded as well.

Same style of bomb, very lucky that it plopped between the land and the floating pier, and also that it didn't fully detonate.
