Maine Just Put Welfare Leeches In Their Place

Governor Paul LePage of Maine isn’t running for president in 2016. But perhaps he should be.

Because he is doing in Maine exactly what Americans want to see — but other candidates are not even talking about.

Last November, just one week after his re-election, LePage did something unusual — he made good on a major campaign promise, by slashing funds for cities who give welfare to illegal aliens. The policy has already had a huge impact, with illegals fleeing in droves, and Democrat mayors having to defend giving handouts to illegal invaders before angry voters.

Now, just 6 months later, LePage is making good on another promise: to put an end to welfare leeches in his state, once and for all.

The results are something every American should see — an EPIC victory. And Democrats are FURIOUS.

Governor LePage passed a measure last year that requires recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program (SNAP) to complete a certain number of work, job-training, or volunteer hours in order to be eligible for assistance. The new requirement has resulted in a dramatic decline in food stamp enrollment, resulting in a logical win-win for all of Maine.

At the end of 2014 the enrollment count for SNAP was approximately 12,000 individuals. Now that individuals have to complete either 20 hours of part-time work a week, volunteer for at least 24 hours per month, or get involved in a vocational program, the amount of SNAP recipients has dramatically dropped from 12,000 to approximately 2,500 by the end of March — a nearly 80% reduction in welfare.

The drop in numbers exceeded Republicans’ expectations by leaps and bounds.

Instead of just giving welfare applicants an easy way out, Maine is forcing people to explore every opportunity for employment before allowing capable adults to take advantage of the system and the people of Maine.

Of course Democrats are insisting that the program targets those in poverty or rural areas but their argument is invalid. The individuals benefiting from the new food-stamp law are the ones who really need the assistance and aren’t just lazy parasites to society who suck the vitality out of taxpayers.

This is a huge victory for the Republicans of Maine and of course the sore loser Democrats are trying to tarnish the reformation’s success. Democrats are urging for special measures to ease back on some of the new requirements because they are “too strict”. Too strict to get off your butt and earn your money, or at least volunteer or learn a skill? Maine citizens aren’t buying it.

Maine was one of eight other states that took similar measures and declined a federal waiver for the new rule that requires welfare recipients to get off their behinds and contribute to society like everyone else.

This huge drop in the number of able-bodied welfare leeches after forcing them to work for their needs proves everything we’ve ever reported about welfare abusers. They’re only looking for the next handout.

Now if only we could get every American governor to do what Paul LePage is doing — against both illegal aliens, and welfare leeches — we might well save our nation.

An 80& drop in welfare applications - just because they would have to work or volunteer a bit, or learn a trade? 80&!!!!!!!!!!Tells a story.

It should be a nationwide requirement, but with the Obamination in da big house, that ain't happening.

This has always been the problem with western welfare systems.

They did not require any contribution to the community from the recipients.

I hope this idea catches on.

Nobody should be given cash to do nothing.

This is actually the way communism was implemented at a practical level in the Soviet Union. Everybody got money but nobody was allowed to do nothing. Everybody had to do something.

In the UK we give money to people to keep having kids, those who are 'too fat to work' the legions on 'disability' for depression, bad backs, various phobias and just made up disabilities. Stop their benefits and they would soon be working. It's become a human right in the UK not to work and to sponge off the state for decades, up to you.

Maine Gov. LePage: Welfare applicants must apply for three jobs before getting aid

    The article is as usual when coming from right wing blogs totally bogus. It is almost a complete fabrication. I have a feeling that is why even booners is staying away from this thread. Even he knows that it is bullshit. None of that legislation has passed. All the data is made up completely. Note the last sentence in the article. This scumbag is even trying to strip 19 and 20 year olds of health insurance. See below;

Maine Governor Paul LePage on Monday revived legislation to crack down on welfare fraud, making good on a 2014 campaign promise to tighten restrictions on the state’s public assistance programs and help speed the transition from “welfare to work.” LePage’s bill would require applicants for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families to apply for three jobs before receiving state aid, while prohibiting use of electronic benefit cards to purchase tobacco, liquor, tattoos, lottery tickets or to pay for bail.
The bill would also ban the use of benefit cards for purchases outside the state.
“This legislation is about a fundamental culture shift in Maine’s economy and government,” LePage, a Republican, said.
Several of the measures had been rejected by the previous legislature, but LePage, who easily won re-election last November, said the reforms deserved a second chance.
“Mainers spoke loudly in favor of welfare reform this November and the composition of the legislature has changed as a result,” LePage said.
Democrats lost control of the Maine Senate in the November elections but retained their majority in the House.
Democrats, who battled constantly with the outspoken LePage during his first term, struck a more conciliatory tone on Monday.
“We are looking to find common ground with the governor on welfare reform,” said Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves. “As we know, the best anti-poverty program is a job.”
The governor, a self-made businessman who was raised in poverty, has long leveraged his hardscrabble upbringing to argue for a “tough-love” approach to welfare.
Under LePage, Maine has begun printing photos on welfare cards to discourage fraud and has proposed to cut non-disabled 19- and 20-year-olds from the state’s Medicaid program.

Much ado about nothing. "We might well save our nation" speaks volumes on the utter ignorance and stupidity of sheep, were they given the power of speech.

In Australia being on welfare is a career path for generations of tard Family's.

Being a single mother is particularly good and the system encourages the dumb ones to just keep throwing kids out.

Being an Indigenous person guarantees life long access to welfare and extra benefits simply because they are Indigenous.

    The system is completely fooked.

    Drinking so early?

I was under the impression the U.S. didn't have a U.K. style welfare system.
They had 'unemployment' which ran out in a very short time.

Australia has had the requirement for the applicant to prove they have been applying for jobs for a long time now.
Welfare recipients having to work for the dole is demeaning to the recipient. (or so I've heard).
