So, you are trying to apply logic to what is essentially an irrational act? An exercise in futility.Nonetheless, if one wishes to end their life, why take random innocents with you?
Not really. Student licence leads to private licence, which only requires some 40hrs flying. CPL is a longer road to travel, expensive, and with less than 250hr flying employment is difficult - obviously Lufthansa helped in this respect. Even so, at the age of 28, this guy had only accumulated 630hrs or so.I don't know, guess both versions are wrong, as there seems to be student, private and commercial pilots licences and training
It is at the discretion of individual airlines - not all of them mandate this requirement.Apparently only the US mandates 2 people in the cockpit at all times
That's a fair bit of meat, I reckon, harry...You're gonna wake up a few prisoners with that remark...Originally Posted by harrybarracuda

Germany goes overboard with that much the same as Thailand goes overboard with drug and gambling laws. There may not have been much the airline could have done to vett this clown any better.

BERLIN—The German government, seeking to address growing concerns that Germany's privacy laws haven't kept pace with the Internet age, plans to tighten personal data protections with a new law that would make it much harder for companies to monitor employees and gather information on job candidates.

It really presses home the point that you are at the "mercy of the gods" when you fly...With the added dimension of the "person behind the wheel"...
This is getting a fook of a lot of exposure, and that is the part that is seriously worrying...
It seems there's nothing like an airplane crash...It galvanizes the entire world...
This small place in the Alps is "science fiction," now...
This just may eclipse the MH 370 incident, still recent in our minds...
This is why I carry valium on any flight i go on. So I can comatose myself. But hey I'm just a worry wart yadayadayada
In what other instance in life does one person have absolute control over so many lives ? 149 people murdered. Thats more then all famous mass murderers.
never trust people who go running....
Germanwings pilot slipped through 'safety net' with devastating consequences | Daily Mail Online
Politely, I don't think so. According to both Wikipedia and the National Geographic Air Disaster video about the crash, it was the exact same chain of events as this crash, but that was before 9-11 and the fortress cockpit doors.Originally Posted by Markus
"The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) recorded the captain excusing himself to go to the lavatory, followed thirty seconds later by the first officer saying in Egyptian Arabic "Tawkalt ala Allah," which translates to "I rely on God." A minute later, the autopilot was disengaged, immediately followed by the first officer again saying, "I rely on God." Three seconds later, the throttles for both engines were reduced to idle, and both elevators were moved three degrees nose down. The first officer repeated "I rely on God" seven more times before the captain suddenly asked repeatedly, "What's happening, what's happening?""

Much safer than the chance we take every time we drive or ride on any Thai road.

In the last recording on the black boxes in that case , you can hear the pilot telling the co-pilot to help him pull up.
"El Habashy: Pull. Pull with me. Pull with me. Pull with me."
Yes the pilot did leave to take a piss but he did come back and seat himself and try to save the plane.
^ Yes, but there was only 1 pilot in the cockpit when the nut put the plane into the dive, not 2. The Captain came back and tried to save the plane, but could not. In German Wings the Captain could not come back because of the barrier door.
The co pilot was apparently suffering from depression after a 'love split', so begs the question why would the airline let someone suffering from depression fly a plane.
According to the airlines he wasn't depressed. Anyway, Germany are strict about privacy. Still early, probably something will explain fuller coming in the near future.

There are rumours on Twitter the #Germanwings pilot was a recent convert to Islam via a radical Bremen mosque
I've been reading them but not not yet committed to embracing. Just rumors at this stage. I feel many people on # are disappointed he was white.
He would not be the first mentally ill flight crew member that was able to conceal his problems well enough to be admitted to the cockpit. Fedex had the nearly successful suicide-crash by a flight engineer (ex military pilot) in 1994.

This man was totally nuts but managed to hide it too.
