MODEL Anna Nicole Smith’s “husband” is under armed guard while police investigate claims she may have been murdered.

Lawyer Howard K Stern is in fear of his life as detectives probe the allegations.
Pals say Anna feared she was being watched by a mystery man in the days before her death. The news came after it was revealed at least seven men could be the dad of her baby girl.

And Anna’s half-sister Donna Hogan said the father of Dannielynn could even be the pin-up’s dead billionaire husband J. Howard Marshall after claiming Anna had frozen the 90-year-old oil baron’s sperm.

Donna said: “I wouldn’t be shocked at all if it’s J. Howard’s. She saved his sperm after all.”

Anna, 39, died from a suspected drug overdose in a Florida hotel room last week.

Police say they have so far found no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

But worried Stern is being guarded in case a killer is at large.

He is also due to be formally interviewed by police within the next 48 hours.
A police source told the Daily Star Sunday: “This is far from a straightforward case.

“We are checking out claims that Anna said she was being watched by a mystery man before her death. It inevitably sparks speculation that another party was involved.

“It’s a line we are going down and until it is ruled out then Howard needs protecting too.”

Police have also been tipped off that Anna kept a diary that could solve the mystery of her death.

One detective said: “She was apparently writing about everything – and everyone – in her life at great length.”

Authorities are already probing whether Stern’s “marriage” to Anna is recognised under US law.

And now the 38-year-old, who could eventually gain control of the £274million fortune Anna expected to win from Marshall’s estate, has also been accused by Donna of having “a hand” in the tragedy.

Choking back tears and nodding her head, she added: “I believe that – I really do.”

Fox TV talk host Geraldo Rivera, who was a pal of Anna, also tore into Stern on live television, saying: “He makes my skin crawl.

“If I were him, I would be getting myself a lawyer right now. He has a lot of questions to answer. Howard K. Stern is the common denominator in two deaths – of Anna and her son Daniel.”

Daniel, 20, died five months ago from a drug overdose in his mother’s hospital room in the Bahamas, where she had just given birth to Dannielynn.

Stern is named as the girl’s father on the birth certificate – but faces a paternity court battle against Anna’s ex-boyfriend, photographer Larry Birkhead, who claims the child is his.

But in a bizarre twist, the husband of Hollywood legend Zsa Zsa Gabor, 90, claimed he also had a fling with Anna and could be the father.

Prince Frédéric von Anhalt, 59, said: “If you go back from September last year, she wasn’t with one of those guys – she was with me.”

Last night it was revealed at least three other men who have consulted lawyers connected to the case are also claiming to have fathered Dannielynn.
