Bobcock In Vietnam - Part 3 - Hoi An

I took 644 pics in Hoi An which is a lovely small town about 30 minutes south of Da Nang.

It has lots of Chinese architecture and is a few km inland from the beach on a river.

Very much part of the backpacker route it has a huge number of cafes and small places to stay. great place to walk around snapping, I'll probably put up about 40 shots from there. here are the first 10.

The first pic is of two boats trawling, you can see the net tied to the back of each boat. they were rowing the boat sideways against the current. It was pretty strenuous by the look of it.







this is Hoi an's most famous landmark. the Japanese Covered Bridge.



Lots of artists studios etc.





Spent a fascinating couple of hours on a boat out on the river watching the locals fish. Catches were exactly impressive.

Lots of lantern shops in Hoi An. This one was where they made them, part of some community project.

BC: was the old lady done with telephoto lens or were you nice and close...amazing detail in her face...I always think that good pics come from what the photographer sees...not from what the camera sees...

I've learnt from the many TD threads that things I see every day and never think to photograph actually make great pics...

The old man was done with a 400mm lens, he is actually on a boat out on the water. He was a great opportunity that I really feel I didn't quite do justice.

the old lady is close up, she was quite happy to have her pic taken. I don't like the pic so mugh in colour, but it's good in B&W. I did it rather quickly last night, I want to have a better go at it and also see what MtD can come up with.

I think that is what bustak really excels at. He has a great eye for a shot.

In this temple they had these huge conical incense sticks. I'd only seen them once before in some photgraphs a friend of mine took in Tibet. I tried to take the shot from directly below.

Last few, taken from a nighttime walk around town. I didn't bring a tripod as the kids get very bored if I try to compose anything properly and it can lead to an unpleasant time with no winners.

Some nice shots but I was shooting as ISO3200 so some of them are a bit noisy.

Rather large version outside the model ship shop. I've always wanted one of these and eventually bought one in Saigon.

Seems professional to me. Just like National Geographic. I think all these local places full of character are going to be largely gone in 25 years. Air is going to be big. Fresh air will cost you.
