AirAsia quote around 1500B each way on their website, so a return ticket comes to 6400B (obviously).
Can you get a visa for Vietnam on Arrival?

No idea. I'm too organised to know about things like that.

I had a qui... err.. an egg flan at the Little Hanoi cafe, with another Viet coffee. It was not bad, but a bit bit. Could've done with a side salad and half the amount of flan. Nice place though.

I had a Vietnamese foot massage today. The girl was very petite and very cute. The massage was excellent too, but I was too shy to ask her if I could take her picture for some of my mates too drool over. Out of order, I know, so I apologise. Got a piccie of St Joseph's Church which is situated next door.

OK, I'm off to see if I can locate any of their local black beer and I think I saw some small bottles of local wine. Could be a winning combination...

I have booked a driver for tomorrow, so I will do all the tourist attractions that you're all waiting to see.

What's exchange rate now, and did you visit the lacquer factories, some good stuff there?

There's a very nice selection of handicrafts in Vietnam, from what I remember, not the usual tacky stuff.

The exchange rate is just under 16,000Dong to the Dollar, but most places use 15,000.

I've just bought a big painting for the house. Most places seem to want around $500 for a picture just over 1m sq, but I found a more realistic place selling them for $150. The lacquer ware is pretty good too, but not my thing.

BTW, I was back at the hotel at about 10.45 last night. I was feeling bloated from drinking shite beer.

OK, time to find some drink.

Ok - I'm a bit sozzled, but here is tonight's update.

I wen to a few bars to sample the various brews. The first place was 3 doors down from my hotel and is called the Red Beer.

The beer was not too bad actually. Its supposed to be Belgian, but if this is true, then English ales really are the best in the world.

    Well done Mtd.

How much was the airline ticket?
I've booked up to go to Saigon in April, escaping Songkran in Pattaya, the cheapest airfare I could get was with Air France, 8800 baht round trip (incl all taxes), booked direct online.

Heard yesterday there is a cheap airline offering return flights to Manilla, Cebu Pacific Airlines, they have a web site as well, horrible times though!!!!

Hmmm... yes. It was a bit late last night. At least my eyes have started focusing now, which is good, but I have to have brekkie and then shoot off to see some museums. I might get time later to finish this.

BTW, The bloke on top of the tank was cleaning them.

Yesterday had a bit of a full schedule, so I was unable to post anything. Right, where was we?

After the Red Beer Bar, I popped down to R&R. This is supposed to be a Seppo bar, but thankfully, all the patrons were from the British Isles. First up was a local brew called Huda. Strangely, it was gassy and devoid of taste. I can see a pattern semerging here.

They have a better range of beers here than in most of the other bars I tried, so I manged to have a different one each round. Next up was a Frog beer that has been brewed in Hanoi for about 100 years. Biere LaRue was a typical French biere blonde, and was smoother and a bit sweeter than the other local beers. It made a nice change actually.

Next on the list was Saigon Special. It was back to the usual Viet style beer for this one. Quite dry and gassy.

If this beer review malarky was going to improve, I was going to have to change tact. Comparing the different Viet beers is a bit like comparing different types of boiled rice. Sure there are differences, but it's all bland and tasteless.

Biere LaRune was quite nice, I also liked it

Shouldn't this thread be retitled : The Live Beer Tour in Hanoi
