What are the rules re pics?

I've just been looking through old CDs for pics of dogs & come across some fantastic photos of HH's fishing community & their dogs that would make a lovely photo thread on TD. Trouble is, the pics aren't mine. They were taken by someone who came to visit the center about 4 years ago. Can I do a thread, saying that the pics aren't mine? Or better to leave it alone?

If they are not copy righted then no issue especially if you know whoever took them won't mind. Pics are posted here all the time from the net.

Just look at Noodles' ... umm or is it Erco ... or the turds ... recent Kanchanaburi thread. I'm not saying anything more but word is he "borrowed" the pics in that .

Anyway as long as you say who took them up front, no big issue. About time we had a few more picture threads.

Started to upload pics to TD in internet cafe & they were taking ages. Wondered why & realised I just transferred them to CD without resizing them. Average size of 1MB each!!!

Have to resize them at home & come back to upload them tomorrow. D'oh!

Under the Berne Convention (to which Thailand's a signatory, I think??) copyright exists as a matter of course automatically in any qualifying work(s) therefore it's a pretty safe assumption that the pics in question are the copyrighted works of whoever it was that took them.

That being said - and considering the (non-commercial) manner in which you're intending to use them - it's my considered legal advice to say: 'bugger it' and go ahead and post them. It's highly unlikely that the person in question will/would ever know and even in the unlikely event that they do it's even more unlikely they could be bothered with asserting and/or enforcing their rights. And even if a confluence of all these unlikely events were to take place then I hereby pledge to offer you my services, free of charge, to defend the case.

However for now that'll be US$1,234.00 thanks.

tv watermarks it's pics and also the search engines consider it as small link backs, so not a good idea.
