I have just looked at the users online stats. They surprised me but they might explain our recent problems.

There are currently 14043 users online. 9 members and 14034 guests

Most users ever online was 19,075, Yesterday at 10:45 AM.

TD has been around for 18 years, many of those years much busier than the forum is now and some of those years when DD cared a lot about SEO and yet yesterday morning was our busiest time ever?
Clearly it wasn't just members visiting us. Some visitors would have been genuine visitors (humans) and many would have been Google bots and the like, but what about the rest? Surely not a mass of spam bots trying to register, so what? A DDOS attack?

Russians trying to locate snubby? Chinese communists looking for harry?

What else?

Now the numbers are reduced and we are back online. Still a lot mind, but five thousand fewer than an hour ago.

There are currently 8920 users online. 5 members and 8915 guests

It is a demo forum so presumably temporary and not really yours. Will it only be a temporary refuge or will you be able to eventually transfer it/the database to a new dedicated forum with your own url?
