Click the yellow expat diary on top of the new posts search page. All sorts of good stuff there as well in TD links.
TD is content rich but the content is dated. Needs updating. Care and feeding of content died with DD. Get content updated and visable on search engines. Will go a long way to getting more members.
Dump the escort ads.
Sort the ancient pic post process along with other not user friendly stuff.
Get rid of 90% of the doghouse threads.
Dump speakers corner or fix it.
Keep OPs that have fuck all to do with SE Asia or Asia at a minimum.
Plus a long list of other things that need to be done to revitalize the site.
A lot of work and gonna cost a bit but if TD is to improve, ownership must take the lead and as with Nike, just do it. Do nothing and it will remain as it is. A slowly but surely dying website.
Well reasoned per usual, Norty.
All above could've easily have been fixed or modified some time back.
It's obvious that the powers to be here aren't looking to improve the place for the better......just going through the motions. That's OK, as it is what it is.
After Eric's passing - the purges, the "changes", the general environment, policies, etc......taking a strange twist not looking to grace the betterment of this uniquely eccentric venue.
So is TD looking for donations? Cuz if the ads stop revenue is going to be cut.Originally Posted by Norton

There's no point in making decent content anymore, the trash are allowed to run rampant across the forum and take away any reason to contribute in a meaningful way. There are quite a few still here who once contributed a lot, the outdated articles Norton refer to were mostly written by members who are still here but who see no reason to make the effort anymore, and it is an effort. I can't speak for anybody else but I don't write articles or share knowledge any more because TD no longer feels like a community, I don't even know who who owns it let alone get any feedback from the powers that be, and anything worthwhile or interesting will immediately get drowned out by the few howling monomaniacs who pollute almost every thread.
There are still interesting threads in certain parts of the forum but not really enough to give it a feeling of liveliness.
I reckon it'll carry on for a while yet and eventually just fade away from a lack of interest.

I disagree, the way the TD community came together to help me reassured me there was hope in the online community we have here. I sincerely hope that I can repay the support that was given to me, but I personally don't contribute the way I've done in the past on the other forum simply because I'm scared shitless to post anything remotely personal.Originally Posted by DrB0b
Edit....
Having said the above, I've got a license or two of the updated forum software. I'll happily donate it to TD if they'll use it to upgrade the forum.
No, sorry, that's not allowed. Nice try though!Originally Posted by CSFFan

^^ In some ways I agree but you just can't kick members out just because they're 'jaded longstayers'. When I first came on this forum, my nic was 'Ivor Biggun' and I thought the forum was the bees knees. I used to piss myself with laughter at the wind-ups. That no longer is the case these days unfortunately. I've even started looking at TV forum again which is a sad thing to admit. Where the forum goes from here I don't know but I'll stick with it.
Let the code be open source.
We should all be thankful for our forward thinking admin. Look at the Teakdoor logo at the top of the page. It's got its Christmas hat on already, 30 weeks in advance. Nice one.
