Going back to the UK for some 2 months last year gave me a rare chance to catch-up with an old school pal who is now in the enviable position of living the life of a wine exporter in the South of France.
If I had the time then I would have liked to have taken the Audi and made a nice drive out of it, however time was not on my side and this was only going to be a 3 day break so I boarded a flybe flight at Manchester airport direct to Nantes international on the beautiful French Atlantic coast. The flight was a bargain in my view at just over 90 quid return.
So, it's Au revoir l'Angleterre et bonjour la France
Anyway, it was a good trip and it was great to catch-up with a very good school friend who I had not seen for many years.
One of the highlights of this short break was taking his 3 kids for a visit to Zoo de La Palmyre as a thank you for their hospitality, this is undoubtedly one of the finest zoos in the EU and really is he way a zoo should be.
Zoo de La Palmyre is located on the French Atlantic coast about half way between Nantes and Bordeaux, set in the magnificent forests and dunes of La Palmyre with marked trails to follow through the lush grounds which will see you taking in over 1,600 animals from all over the world.
The zoo plays an important role in reintroducing animals into their natural habitats and the animals that are kept their all seem happy enough and it is obvious to any visitor that they are cared for impeccably.
The zoo was opened the same year that England won the Football world cup final, 1966.
