    Irish Lads

I've booked 3 nights in Dublin over the summer.

I'm staying well out of the centre cos of a) prices and b) I like getting drunk with local people in local places.

I'm sure they'll love my English accent in Tallaght.

    Two questions:

In the city centre, where is a good area for a booze that isn't Temple Bar and full of tourists?

And what's a good day out by the beach from Dublin or maybe worth a couple of nights? I can extend the trip and stay a couple of nights more if needs be.

    Go raibh maith agat.

Take the train ride to Dalkey. Great views, picturesque village and a small
    pub.

Tallaght brave......one of the sink estates with a horse outside, think you'd have to pay me to stay there, go for an upgrade

Drinking I like Dublin 5 south of the river and east of Temple bar, around the uni Merrion Sq and the pricey Shelbourne

Here's a few suggestions, google walk map link below

Ginger man, Fenian Street always a good start, named after j p dunleavy comic novel, the primer for on the lash in Baile Átha Cliath

A stroll via a double jameson's at the Lombard

A scoop or 2 in Mulligans with country gals by Tara st bus eirrean terminal, seedy

    Then attack the north

Over the Liffey, if on a budget or quick feed there is silver penny a Spoons!

Back to the porter at the Celt where if a session playing I'd find a perch until dinner

My crawls usually ended at Madigans nearby handy for Connoly station

    map
    https://maps.app.goo.gl/NfcSLdQSXjeJZQQR8

Beach , look or swim too cold for me, plenty of lovely strands accesible by train, nearest Howth Ireland's eye or on the DART METRO South to Dalkey while based Dublin

Unless you have designated driver a car hire fuel dear go by train down to greystones Arklow etc check a map.

If you have 2 days could be anywhere by car I prefer Donegal or Connemara west of Galway an excellent base for cliffs of Moher. Doolin and Lisdoovarna where my godmother was from ,the matchmaking fair immortalised by Christie Moore, a rather dull market town outside the annual festival.

Theres' peak porter and good craic all over enjoy.
PS double the amount of money you planned on food Guinness is UK prices most other things cabs hotels more these days, pm me if you have Qs about Munster which Iknow best from family and saling, West Cork Kerry wonderful, pretty wet this time of yea rCourtmacsharry Timoleague and Baltimore doable by car , slow if bus train only

Kerry wonderful also deserves a week

Some great tips there, Dave. I'll be having a look at those and will undoubtedly send you a PM closer to the time.

Regarding cost, the hotels in the centre are 100 Euros for a bloody room in a dorm. Over 150 quid for anything approaching decent.

I'm staying a few miles out in a decent hotel (not Tallaght but not a million miles away) for 90 quid.

And I'm expecting Manchester prices for food and drink in the centre of town according to what I've read.

Like 15 quid for pie in chips in a pub and 6 to 7 quid for a pint.

It'll be reet though when I'm with the locals in me local pub paying local prices and talking about me ancestors.

It's local in parts of Manchester too depending on the brewery.

More in the city centre if you're factoring food in.

150 quid minimum for a good night with food and drinks.

Throw in a Joe Baxi and a couple of trendy places and you're over 200.

Leeds is the same while Brighton and London are daylight robbery.

    Could go to Belfast actually.

    That's another option.

I've heard it's a good night out as well.

    I've been twice before mate.

First time I was having a pint after work in town and planning on a quiet night and a Chinese.

Then my mate asked if we fancied going to Dublin.

So off we fucked, jibbing the train and then getting the overnight ferry from Holyhead.

Arrived and my mate told the taxi driver to take us to the "early shop."

Taxi driver said "no, you want the late shop."

So there we were 15 minutes later supping a pint of Guinness at 6.30am.

We were baffled as to why the city was so busy when we eventually went looking for a hotel.

Turned out it was the 5 Nations (back then) and Scotland were in town playing Ireland.

Couldn't get a single bed between the 4 of us, so we stayed on the piss and got a ferry back late afternoon.

The 2nd time was a bit more planned, but I can't remember much for obvious reasons...
