I went on a high school senior trip to Nassau on this tub. The Italian crew is what I remember the most. The second thing is being seasick and how bad the cabin smelled. It was in the inner bowels of that very old ship.
My first ever trip outside of Australia was a cruise to New caledonia and Fiji. Never been to Bali probably never will. If I want a beach and a bar full of aussies I can go to the end of my street. It's a lot cheaper.
Must have been 9 or 10. We took a car ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg, Denmark and drove across to Copenhagen to visit my Danish grandparents and various relatives.
...on a family trip from southern New England to Quebec at 14: my 2 years of classroom French came in handy as I impressed my parents by asking every local denizen the time and the location of the train station...
I think I was 4 years old the first time we sailed from the US side of Lake St. Clair up to the Georgian Bay in Lake Huron. Most of my childhood was very boring and ordinary, but every summer we would take off for a month to sail up to Canada.
We moved to Florida when I was 9. We sailed to the Bahamas just once before my parents got divorced and my Mom moved back to California.
Stockholm/Vaxholm on a school exchange programme in the last year of grammar school.
I pestered my parents to be allowed to go. We never had family holidays. I usually got shipped out to a great aunt for the summer.
We certainly didn't travel overseas.
I thought it would be my one and only time to go abroad.
More than 50 countries later I am living the dream in Thailand
Let's do some geography, history and math all rolled into one.
Da Nang/Aged 17/1968.
This means that Lulu was born around 1951 and is now around 72 years old.
Either, he is Benjamin Button, who fought in the Vietnam war, or is not telling the truth.
I really do hope he is fibbing becuase stolen valour is seen in a bad light.
He could be telling the truth though, as I don't know, I weren't there man.
Black diamonds? I shit 'em.
I met Lu at last year's SAS Service Awards and can confirm it's all true.
Age 12. School trip to Switzerland for skiing.
First adult trip would be aged around 19 - backpacking around Brittany with the then girlfriend (and soon to be wife, and shortly thereafter, ex-wife).
IMHO
Quit digging
If I tell folks I was at Waterloo , they know its the London train station where Churchill insisted on meeting De Gaulle on arrival in London.
I was at Da Nang too ad Khe Sanh (Hamburger Hill but as an Observer later not a combatant) .
Had you said "I was at the Battle of Marathon, Rorke's Drift or Boston Tea Party" we'd all know t was a bit of Lulu nonsense?
To the men who served (on all sides) and their injured and fallen comrades you do yourself no favours.
I am sure your a good lad and meant no offence. If you really are shagging your way through Cebu , African 'Affairs" Department of C Mao University aged 72 I take my Panama Hat orf to yer...............

Russia went from being 2nd strongest army in the world to being the 2nd strongest in Ukraine
One needs to be a very rich person to enjoy Prague. Probably the most expensive food in Europe although the beer is very good.
1967 Naples, Italy courtesy of the US Navy. Took a bus up to the NATO base and to the long walk down to the port. The smells and sounds were nothing like my home town and the poverty was not explainable with my then world view.
