it has never been different for centuries,

the difference is that we appease the mass by "empowering" them with fairy tales and myth

it's classical music to the slaughter house,

I work for some of the largest companies in the world and some of the stuff they have in their marketing plans is dreadful. That being said, one of them is actually trying a novel approach over the next few years; provide good service, don't try to sell uninvited products and offer value. I nearly fell off my chair.

But, as long as they keep on paying me, they can snag as many kids onto their product ranges as possible.

^^^^A comeback? The 20th century was the most horrible in the history of our species. The 19th wasn't much better. To what do we return? The Age of Reason? Pericles' Athens? The Tang Dynasty?

Things aren't that bad... It's called progress.

We are all probably having a better quality of life than we could have had 100 years ago.

    What you complaining about?

    Doubt it ever existed.

It just got a lot worse as media and communications exploded.

Billy Bragg take on this :-

It says here that the Unions will never learn
It says here that the economy is on the upturn
And it says here we should be proud
    That we are free
And our free press reflects our democracy

Those braying voices on the right of the House
Are echoed down the Street of Shame
Where politics mix with bingo and tits
In a strictly money and numbers game

Where they offer you a feature
    On stockings and suspenders
Next to a call for stiffer penalties for sex offenders

It says here that this year's prince is born
It says here do you ever wish
    That you were better informed
And it says here that we can only stop the rot
With a large dose of Law and Order
And a touch of the short sharp shock

If this does not reflect you view you should understand
That those who own the papers also own this land
    And they'd rather you believe
    In Coronation Street capers
In the war of circulation, it sells newspapers
    Could it be an infringement
Of the freedom of the press
To print pictures of women in states of undress

When you wake up to the fact
    That you paper is Tory
Just remember, there are two sides to every story

You've already done so living in the sticks of Thailand. None of the crap on the media or from evil corporations will have any effect on your life so tune it out.

"Turn on, tune in, drop out"

A person should turn on to their own way of thinking, tune in to themselves, and drop out of society.

Think you and many others who live full time in Thailand are philosophically agree with Timothy Leary.

Methinks some people worry too much over things they cannot control.
When was the last time some multi-national company had such a profound effect on your day-to-day living?

last Thursday we had cable tv connected; hadn't had tv since the end of March 2010; read a B Post about once a month, plus whatever local English papers in Malaysia or Cambodia when traveling; had internet connection most of that time, but with just an aircard was selective in what i chose to read.

    A semi news blackout.

Apart from live sport, did I miss anything? Actually I didn't even miss the sport after a while, watch a 10min highlights clip on Youtube instead.

Since Thurs the 'news' has consisted of a wedding, a sainthood, a death.

Do I have to care about any of these things?

Janda, I completely understand your feelings. I guess you think things are bad but not completely gone. Those creating the problems aren't so bad. You probably think that our lives aren't so good but they will never get better. We are living though.

My problem is with those who really think things are bad. These people think we are slaves and victims even doomed to possibly die due to the force out there working against the greater good. Some of these are the conspiracy theorists. What bothers me is when these people talk about this subject but reject the idea of using violence to change things. It's insanity. Whenever we bring up words of killing others to improve our lives we are immediately knocked down for even thinking the thought, yet if there is a truly evil force out there which drives some of us to our deaths isn't violence and option to save our own lives?

Conspiracy believer "They're killing us. They are enslaving us."

Realist "So we should take action and kill their leaders to stop this"

    -End of discussion-

TO some it's almost like mankind is going to the gas chamber and we know it but we still ahve hope. It's the holocaust all over. Do real believers just talk shit online and take no action to save themselves and their family members. Oh, I see voting them out of office will end the conspiracy and holocaust. Well, that's the way the world seems to think it's going to work if you look at all the nutters out there claiming grand conspiracies.

    surely they taught you that

The term Golden Age (Χρυσόν Γένος) comes from Greek mythology and legend and refers to the first in a sequence of four or five (or more) Ages of Man, in which the Golden Age is first, followed in sequence, by the Silver, Bronze, and Iron Ages, and then the present, a period of decline. By extension "Golden Age" denotes a period of primordial peace, harmony, stability, and prosperity.
