I don't wai either, I'll sort of hint of bow , once upon meeting but not to wait staff or like.

I also don't use Sa wa dee.. as every Thai answers the phone with hello, so I'm sure the communication gets across.

It 's good enough for every day.

Could the inability to express themselves be the reason there are so many ladyboys?

The non occidental do not think as we. To assume the contrary denotes an ignorance usually reserved for the ingenue for whom most here would have nothing but contempt.

One cannot underestimate the influence Buddhism has upon the Thai yet many, and seemingly you, consistently ignore its impact. Not surprising really, not least because the reason for this omission is your utter inability to empathise with their mindset as a consequence of that belief system so obviously alien to your nature. In truth, the Thai pity you as much you affect a predictable moral superiority over them. You are inept, gauche and incapable of establishing any balance in your own sterile world limited to the temporal.

Frankly, I'm surprised they tolerate us as much as they do. To be an eternal hostage to the future, as most of us are, is really a curse and I suppose their tolerance is underpinned as much by their sympathy as anything else.

Watching farang clumsily removing themselves from the dining table is a reasonable metaphor for the cultural differences illuminating our little world.

na, i think ladyboys are the result of fathers leaving the mums to bring up kids with grandmum on the farm etc, or mums sending off kids to the farm to live with the family.
being brought up by a pack of women who think its funy to watch you 24-seven, play with your cock for amusement, and dress you up like a little girl is definately going to make you turn out strange.

Hmmm... Sounds like fun maybe, no?

I had to wear a little red dress when I was a catholic altar boy and it never did me any harm. Father Fitzpatrick used to slip me a quarter pound of strawberry bon-bons afterwards in the sacristy if I put in a good performance.

You do know that bon bons don't make your bum hurt? Don't you?

Then you need to look harder.

Getting pissed off about wais is really totally pointless. They're playing humble servants, you play arrogant royalty for a bit, everyone knows it's not real, and everyone can go along their way and be happy in the end.

But what I wanted to know: Is the sushi at the Banyan Tree any good? I crave for good sushi but I don't know BKK all that well, and in Chiang Mai, just forget about it, there is no good sushi here. Lack of fresh ocean fish impossible to overcome. The only place in BKK I know is AOI in Siam Paragon, which is pretty decent.

If you knew anything about the topic you'd know it's genetic. Why there's more in Thailand than other places - probably _also_ because it's genetic.
Mom (or auntie) playing with their babies dick (babies, mind you - not children) - is done in many cultures; they think it helps performance later on. Who knows, but I wouldn't dismiss it outright. Similar to how they keep themselves hot after having a baby - it makes you wonder when they run around in the tropical heat with thick hats and socks, but a month after giving birth they're trim and slender like nothing ever happened - that one definitely works.

Yes it is, though I was disappointed they didn't have dragon roll. I recommend the kingfish sashimi, and the fatty bluefin tuna sashimi which was off the menu I think.

Doesn't make it any less irritating at times.

That's where yet another quaint Asian custom comes into play; 'cheating on your partner'.

    Knock yourself out.

Don't kid yourselves, the false sincerity you divine in the LoS is no different to the hypocrisy which oils the wheels of life in the West but at least in Thailand the convention remains rooted in common courtesy and the admirable notion of self restraint in emotional displays whereas drunken boorishness and intemperate humour prevails in Blighty to a depressing degree.
False realities and illusion is accepted commonplace for some, is it not?
