BP trashed unfairly by Yanks?

BO and everyone else don;t know what to do, so blame someone else.

BP is just the easiest entity to blame.

Most likely it would have been the same if it was an American company.

I suspects Brits would have been even worse if this had happened off its coast and there was a yank company to blame.

But didn't all the Brits and Euros love BO and want him elected?

It pays taxes in Britain, but who makes up the majority of its board of directors and its shareholders. I have no idea of the answers, but i'm sure that Americans if don't hold the majority of shares or have more than half of the directors certainly have a high % on both accounts.

BP is 39% American owned, 25% by US pension funds and 14% by individual American investors.

Feel sorry for the 25%. So half of BP's portfolio is in the hands of US pension funds. Sorry but I have to have a link for that.

By the way, only 40% of the company stock is owned in the U.K.

Now if bp dig thier heels in and go legal, it could take years of litigation before any real money was forthcoming. Like Exonn did in the valdise spill, how would that go down.

bama boy wants to stop dividends beig paid, now bp could take legal action, and the whole situation worstens, with bp blaming bama boy that the only route open or left to them would be litigation. Leaves bama boy with egg on his face and the money drying up from bp. he is a prick of the highest order. He is taking huge risks with other people while trying to gain status.

i am not apologising for my country or bp, an accident has occured however it seems to me the handling of events have become shoddy and child like from bama man.

Get on with the job in hand and clean the mess up together with all recsources, then argue the toss.

A point from moonraker earlier, what have the americans done in the way of stopping the flow at source, what technology have they brought to the table.

I would hope that if they had the technology to stem the flow they would help bp and bp would compensate accordingly.

Then they can argue, not waste money and time defending ones position.

BP leased the rig from Transocean Ltd which continued to operate it under contract from BP. Now, of course, if you were to find a clause under the contract wherein BP specified Transocean should cut corners and save money wherever possible then you would be in a position of some strength but you won't and you aren't.

Suggest you deal with it laddie and stop listening to the mindless rhetoric from a lacklustre president anxious to regain fleeting popularity.

There has been a tremendous effort by our brit friends on this thread to obfuscate the facts of this situation by playing the nationalism card. This is a favorite tactic which always invalidates their arguments. One nitwit even attempted a tortureous linkage between 9/11, Afganistan and the oil spill. BP is a large international company that is responsible for stopping the leak and cleaning up the mess. They have managed to make a mess of things through their evasive and incompetent response. I don't particularly like BP, but it's a fact that it's prosperity is in British national interest.
We've seen how zealously America asserts it's national interests, and our recent governments have let us down in not standing up for ours.
It's America that has started cranking up the nationalist rhetoric by constantly stressing the "Britishness" of the company, and the consequences for that will be strain on relations - "why the fuck should we die for America's oil" - will be the clarion call if the Septic government doesn't tone down the rhetoric.

To describe BPs attempts to solve the issue as "incompetent", belies a complete ignorance of the technical complexity of the task. A task that the most competent people in the world are engaged in. Many of them are not American, get over it. Compared to the way previous companies have dealt with similar problems, any objective assessment would recognise that BP's response has been groundbreakingly conciliatory and proactive - not evasive in any way.
