My wife when we married in the UK in 1998 has my name on all things in the UK. But in Thailand still has her Thai name on everything here and we have lived here from 2002 . And it is a Thai name not Thai/Chin.
It was something about owning land was the excuse if she changed her name here , and we are not registered here either.
Explain please.Quote:

ok, now there have been a bunch of posts about thais being disadvantaged taking a farang surname etc. and they are all fukkn bullshit.
NOT having your wife take your name (and would you think it normal in your own country?) CAN leave you at a serious disadvantage in thailand.
here's what happened in MY case:
got to thailand to "retire", blah blah- all the usual bullshit.
wife dragged me off to the amphur to "register the marriage"
we got married in south africa but went through the thai embassy in s.a. and got the thai marriage cert.etc,
BUT:
the fukkn cow refused to get her thai id changed to reflect my surname.
ok, so some on this forum are saying: "so 'kkin what?!!- no plomplem!"
well:
first plomplem:
when the shit hit the fan, i couldn't divorce her in thailand coz her id stated she was still a "miss", not a "mrs.", THEREFORE NOT MARRIED AND NOT DIVORCEABLE!
second plomplem:
when i had to leave thailand due to having run out of visa options (couldn't get a marriage visa and too young for retirement visa, plus the minor impediment of not being able to afford either), had i not cheated and committed fraud to get the kids a new south african passport without her permission so that i could get them out of the ountry, i would be in south africa and they (thai citizens due to birth-mother having been thai) would have had to remain behind, living in an isaan hovel, eating fukkn intestines and afterbirths and tending rice paddies, being looked after by their retarded thai grandparents instead of where they are now, getting the education and intellectual stimulus that they need to develop into successful and worthwhile members of the human race.
plomplem #3:
when the bitch croaked, the kids were cheated out of the land and house that had belonged to their mother, by the grandfather who automatically became the executor of the unmarriied (miss, remember?), daughter's estate, and he claimed it all for himself.
i had to resort to more deviousness and fraud in order to get a copy of the death certificate, because, since a person married to a "miss" is not a husband and therefore will not be given a copy of the death certificate, according to the amphur.
without the death certificate, there was no way i could fight it in the court.
long, long legal process and plenty of money to set THAT one right, i can tell you.
bottom line:
if she is good enough to marry, she should be willing to take your surname.
if she refuses to change her id doc:
DUMP THE BITCH, SHE IS NOT WORTH IT!!
thais genuinely believe that farang are stoopid and the reason for that is that farang reinforce this belief by proving themselves to be gullible and yes:
FUKKN STOOOPID!
.
Interesting.
I'm a native of the country & can't even get a bank account due to not being able to prove my address. Damn tax office WILL NOT to send the one letter that'll work. I've been working & paying tax & NI again, for months, but, nada.
So, I'd personally love to hear how easy it is for Mrs B.
Probably will be difficult. The wifes been here a few days, can't say we've even attempted to open a new account in her name.
Most likely will open a joint account first and then let her have her own. Won't be a problem.
Don't you pay utilities bills, phone bills or council tax :confused:Quote:

There must be ways around it to prove you reside where you are. If you have any closed bank accounts from years gone by when you might of previously lived at your current address might help. They still should be on record.
To my post I was quite tounge in cheek, right now I'm sure my rating is OK; credit history might be a worry though. I would imagine if the wife can get her own account set up and wages paid in her credit rating would be positive from the start - it takes a long time to build up a history though.Quote:

Maybe they have prenuptial agreements.
NR, when it comes to bank accounts, go to NatWest, they have some sort of starter account (or did) for people with various 'issues', it is a current account with just an ATM card, NO debit card etc. That's what i had to do when i got here 16 months ago, had a fookin nightmare trying to get a bank account. They accepted my passport plus photo driving licence.
Haha, I hope if I get married my wife doesn't take my name. I might need it.
