A pointy mountain in the North Brisbane hinterland

Miss Lusty let me drive the long and winding Clear Mountain road. You can see the Glasshouse mountains in the distance even at 24mm

I stopped at Mount Coot-tha on the way home for a panorama of Brisbane by night since I had not been up there before.

I got to the lookout and there was nobody there and there is a railing where you look out from. I needed a jimmy riddle and having one from such a splendid spot seemed like too good an opportunity to miss so I whipped out the old fella and was waiting for the plumbing to kick into action when I became aware of a girls voice saying something from a few meters away and just below me. As my eyes adjusted to the darkness I became aware of several people lying on their backs on a rug on a patch of grass right below the lookout railing. I tucked the old fella back in smartish. It seems by their continued murmured conversation that they had not seen the old chap in the moonlight or what I was about to do. It is hard to imagine what the outcome would have been if I had actually let go with a drenching of piss onto their skyward turned faces!

Golden showers all around, surely that not an arrestable offence at remote dogging spots.

My missus did. I was otherwise engaged in some hot springs, with a bar, while she went foraging in the jungle.

    Elephants have two boobs !

I'd never examined one up close, and always assumed they had some sort of udder or teats. The things you learn, eh ?

    Disturbingly human-like, too....

In these cold times my thoughts drift to warmer climes . . . and Tonga where we have a small coconut/product business. (No, coconuts are not nuts)

We don't have our own plantations as only Tongans, the King actually owns all the land but 'lends' it to males of a family, can own land . . . so it is leased from the males in whose names they're in. This isn't easy as most now live in NZ, Australia or the US and tracking them down for signatures is difficult.

The following photos are from a small section of production that centres on local consumption and - used to be - tourism.

Anyway, aside from the leased plantations we also get coconuts delivered from small-holders. They come in various sizes and are sorted as such.

The nuts need to be scraped out for the meat

. . . and then dried over heat, constantly being moved around so they don't burn or get brown. The fire is fuelled by coconut shells and husks.

As Tonga is almost table-flat it is susceptible to damage from high winds and the annual cyclones - like the Cat5 we were stuck in a few years back . . . there are no really nice beaches on the main island, of Tongatapu sadly . . . and it is quite rough.

The result of that Cat5 . . . and coconut trees are the least affected due to their sturdiness and shape. As you can see, all banana trees were destroyed while coconut trees stayed . . . and the fruit was easily gathered.

But . . . there are spots to swim, protected by reefs

Manchester. Something of a ritual scrubbing the cement outside the house, then using a 'donkey stone' to polish the step.

As money was tight for the average working-class family Donkey Stones were usually obtained from the ‘Rag-and-Bone’ man in exchange for unwanted items. The housewife would be offered a stone varying in colour from light brown to yellow, pale cream or white and it was said that the colour she chose would denote the household’s status in society. Setting aside regional variants, a factory worker would often choose a deep yellow stone whereas if the man of the house had a white-collar job then pale cream or white stones would be used.

Typical millennial Joey. Old enough to eat grass but can't be arsed getting out of mum's pouch and walking.

The secret is Bergamot in Earl Grey . . . the citrus in Chinotto is slightly different, a type of orange.

I like it because we don't drink fizzy soft drinks and Chinottos a bit to a lot more bitter

Also the San Pelegrino Pampelmo (grapefruit) is excellent . . . beats the usual stuff hands-down . . . but some of the German fruit lemonades are also very good.

But yes, it's a matter of taste. I acquired it on my monthly business trips to Italy (when I was based in The Netherlands) . . . same goes with Grappa.

    Ah, Italia . . . bel paese
