In our main street, Fore Street, is the Town Clock which has been there since the 1700’s. In 1828 the former wooden tower was demolished and replaced by a stone tower. I was lucky enough to grow up around 500m from an 800 yr old (ruined) castle, and have always had such interest in things.
It's an aspect of growing up European that I think Americans and Aussies etc. cannot appreciate.
