My son once left his pet rat on the floor and left the room, not closing the door properly. When he came back rat and cat sat :) at very close distance eyeing each other not really knowing what to do.

There may be a difference in the smell of a domestic rat and a horrible rat.
I had a guinea pig and a cat when i was little, the cat slept beside Piggy's cage. And when Piggy was let out to run around, the cat did nothing.
But I'm sure NR doesn't want to try the experiment with her neighbours cat "just to see if it's true or not"!!
This MASSIVE fok (6 inch leg-span) was hanging off the bathroom mirror tonight.
Casts a nice shadow from the downlight.

Is that where the Mob Dance Squad are gonna do their thing?
Like that Philippina jail that did a mean Michael Jackson.
It does look big...
He has been getting around the house for a couple of weeks. I actually caught him in a big glass bowl a few days ago and was going to start feeding him but during the night he managed to lift the lid off and he is now roaming free again.Quote:

Huntsman spiders are great at keeping insects out of the house (they are great to watch because they don't make webs, they run after prey and even grab moths out of mid air) so I don't kill them.
Recent posts of a sick cat, as well as using Photobucket prompted me to post this recent photo of our 6 month old Siamese chilling out......

I remember getting jabs before I moved to Oz and the travel nurse said:
Watch out for Huntsman Spiders.
I said:
I thought they were harmless.
To which she replied:
Yeah, but have you ever fucking seen one?
Anyway, have you given him a name?
Bruce
They are pretty timid and will always run away from humans. They would only bite you if you grabbed one of their legs. Their bite is painful and the venom can cause heart palpitations, dizziness and vomiting but you will recover.
Although the health hazards can be indirect. I just about burst an eardrum last year when my very drunk Korean lady friend found herself eye to eye with an equally large fok on the arm of the sofa and let rip with a window shattering scream!
I don't name the huntsmans as they come and go. I only name things that can go in my observation tank. If he had stayed in the bowl he would have got a name.
What you got in your observation tank at the moment?
Archie's great thanks, full of life and character!Quote:

I'd bite you if you grabbed my leg.
Archie, looking good!!
'John' (GF's name idea not mine) is a Common Garden Skink.Quote:

He has doubled in size (but so has Archie by the looks of it!) in 2 weeks since I caught him since I am feeding him too much.
Are you venomous Patsy? Is there an antidote? :)Quote:

That reminded me of the last nursing home I worked in. I was known for being pretty much the only one that wasn't scared of critters and was always being called to get rid of spiders etc. I walked in for my shift & all the girls from the shift before started going on about this spider they'd locked in a toilet, because it was huge and they'd put a cup over it and all it did was start the cup moving everywhere like on a ouija board. Didn't even let me get my coat off, before I had to go into the room to get it.Quote:

Here's some graffiti on the seat in front of me today on the 14 bus to St. Ives
