Get real. There are far too many immigrants in the U.K. Compared to that, there are hardly any farangs in Thailand.

Farangs contribute greatly to the Thai economy and should be made to feel welcome. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

He's a pseudo {French} Thai Nationalist wannabe. Though, I could find a way to agree with his position on over saturation.

Yes at the moment Philippines probably would be the safer option.
    More and better hospitals anyway.

If the "inevitable" final solution does happen, reckon eradication of the farang infestation will start in a farang infested area. Being far away from these areas and only a few kms from Lao, I would simply cross over the bridge to Lao.

Wonder how the UN would support a farang refugee camp in Lao?

Whatever the figures are, its clear that there are more foreigners living in Thailand than ever before and I agree with Butterfly that from the point of view of those of us living here its not necessarily such a good thing.

In the last couple of years we haves seen changes in the visa regulations making 1 month visa runs a no no for more than 3 trips. Then it was scrapped altogether and brought down to 2 weeks. Next we had limits on back to back tourist visas.
Clearly, theres a lot of fine tuning on immigration being done and there may be more to come.

These changes illustrate that someone in authority is concerned about the comings and goings of an ever increasing number of foreigners. They are perhaps also noticing that unlike the ' old days ' when foreigners were not involved in many crimes, things have moved forward enough that we are even seeing the odd bank job commited by a foreigner.

When an American TEFLer was suspected of being a paedophile killer, it was not long after that a crackdown on cowboy TEFL ers was forthcoming. I wonder what would happen if a foreigner were to murder a Thai person from a very respectable level of society ? I know from my own experience that whenever some dipshit falang does something stupid and ends up on TV, the guy in my local cornershop likes to rib me about it and say " One of your lot " so there is a natural tendancy to tar us all with the same brush.

I don't feel scared or apprehensive about living here but I can see that the bar for living here is likely to be raised and raised again. This will probably be the usual thing of requiring us to show an ever increasing amount of cash in the bank but I also think that one day in the not too distant future, back to back Non Immo visas will become a lot harder to get.

As for being fleas on an elephants arse ....... true. But its easier to swat a flea than wrestle with a monkey.

This is a subject dear to my heart ,, it would have been very easy for me to retire to the LOS ,, but on this occasion I had to let my head rule my heart.

A good friend told me never to invest more in the LOS than you could afford to loose , so that is what I am doing.

My wife has land in Issan that we are gonna build a small bungalow on for about £10.000 all in and we will use this about 2 months a year , mabe more later as I semi retire , but I will never sell my home in the UK,,,,,,,if I am not allowed to stay 2 months then we will live as we do now in the UK ,, later on when I am gone it will be home for my wife after she sells our home in the UK.
This was the way for us , wont suit all as we all are different
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Fair point tho with slump in Uk andUS real estate you could make the same point about many countries in the so called "developed' world The lack of permanecy is part of the frisson here No crash hemets, tsunamis, random cull of PhiPhi backpackers, the odd falng balcony diving, riots in the streets, HIV,dengue,aBhuddism proffering nother million lives a coup theres never a dull moment. Most settled folks who no longer live in the bar find insects that bloody truck with a megaphone and 'The Look" fromthe mrs school fees etc the daily ripples on the serene tolerant Siamese landscape. We are very well treated here just take Thai mrs to US or Uk to encounter real racism and I doubt unless an Okker you can even get her into Oz

I suppose the safest thing would be to return back where you come from, and sign on the Dole.

    Or the US, or Britain

The latest fashion, already for years, is Doctors take nursing courses and apply as nurses in the US. They are very welcome in emergency rooms and intensive care units.

Good hospitals would be available in Manila and Cebu, but probably nowhere else.

Yes those are some of the many services hospitals provide.

Well done for picking up on on that one.
