New ATM Fees - brought to you by the land of smiles....

The bankers association of Thailand, in their infinite greedy wisdom has decided to stick it to the farang again by charging 150 baht fee for international ATM withdrawals. This will be on top of what your bank back home charges.

I guess they figure this can be added to their list on how to encourage travel to Thailand.

So if your bank charges $3, you now be charged about $4.50 rather than the previous 20 baht charge they had prior to April 17.

    20 baht to 150 baht - over a 700% increase overnight!

The banks in Aus have just introduced a $2.00 fee for using another bank's ATM.

Oh, and two of the major banks (Comm & NAB) have just increased their fixed interest rates by .25%.

    Bastards !!

Same principle here in the states if you use a card at a different bank other than your own.

Banks in Thailand are slow, the ones in OZ lead by a country mile in the greed stakes.

Sure HB, however it is one fee not two.

Thailand has made into a tag team banker' gang rape.

Sometimes I think you guys just love to complain - not you personally Memers just everyone here -...

I mean if you withdrew money and they didn't show a warning screen then I'd understand your anger...

Years ago NZ banks starting charging if you deposited cash into your account! Never seen that in Thailand...

also, does anyone actually have a link for any of this...thought I'd put a warning on my website for clients benefit but just want to be sure it's gospel first...

^ From The 17th, I drew some cash out today and the charge was 150Bt,+ the charge from OZ, but as you say the OZ/NZ banks have been gouging us for years on ATMs.

The only mention of it was a complaint in the Post Bag by a farang that was upset that there was no announcement about such a huge charge.

KM, it is not just one thing, but many things - dual pricing, taxi scams, expensive internet with poor service, childlike 90 day immigration reports, 15 day visa runs, visa charges etc

    It all adds up.

    This is an exorbitant ripp-off.

Tourists should avoid LOS for many other reasons, in addition to this one.

Heck tourism is about all Thailand can do right?

I have made 2 ATM hits in the last few days, BKK bank and today at Ayudi or some such name and I got a better rate at BKK bank by 20 satang, but no fee at either, SBC charged me 20 baht on my US ATM card for the first time a month or so ago and I moved my accts to BKK bank.

how do you move your US accounts to a Thai bank?

A lot of banks are now putting new charges on, to get some money to pay for all their losses over the last year

so we will pay for their greed and stupidity, as usual

Banks at home used to charge the same as 40b per withdrawal when I was growing up. I'm surprised it's free here from your own bank.

TMB just charged me 25b for using my Kasikorn ATM card, the kunts.

Saw 60 minutes in Aussie a few years back and they opened an account with $150 in it with all of the major banks. Didn't touch the accounts for 18 months and went back to see what was happening. One bank had a big fat zero due to maintenence costs and whatever.

Banks are robbing kunts the world over.

I will answer you, you funny funny man MOFO. and then you go back on ignore where you were and do belong.

But by immigration ruling, I had to have a Thai bank account, which I had already had to make transfers when I fitst came here, but because it was in CM and I was in town here I opened a new account for my wife and myself here too. and I also have 2 accounts in the states.

No one said I moved any US accounts, You are extremely stupid or are a troll, but I never have liked you anyway so will put you back where you belong.

But just incase you are trying to be serious, I move money with my US ATM/Debit card and a 20 baht service chg.

Depends where home is. They try it on in the UK but I think Link machines are still free.

I like these banks that try and sell you some sort of "Plus" or "Extra" current account.

"You get free travel insurance, free blah blah blah and X% interest on the account"

But it costs £15 a month just to run it.

That is really the case .... they just keep coming up with new ways to screw the farang thinking no one will notice.... they cant imagine that it will beat down tourist numbers.

Some are worth it, I bank with LTSB and the plus accounts seem good. I cannot buy the extras that I get for less then the bank provide.

    Nipped this mess this morning.

Just set up a schwab bank account online. No ATM fees and they reimburse you any ATM fees that other banks charge you. Free checks, free online banking, and they will even mail out checks you write 100% free.
