I was considering retiring down Trat/ Chanthaburi way since the wife has a daughter there. Lovely coast line and cheap seafood. But lack of good hospitals put me off. Sattahip was the compromise. The beaches and natural beauty dont compare with Trat, but once you hit retirement age good medical care should be a high priority.

Children too, that is one of my main sticking points with leaving Phuket. We struggled to find a decent pediatrician in Bangkok that understood good English and Western medicine with an understanding of western medical terminology who would even wash their fecking hands before examining our children. Besides the sheer numbers of sick children on any given day when you go in for a simple check up or shots it's guaranteed they will come out with something they didn't go in with..

We found a doctor at Phuket Hospital that practiced most of his career in my home state and though he's Thai he has been a huge relief for me just to be able to communicate and have that critical parent/doctor understanding, it's been a real stress reliever and now my boys asthma is finally under control after having numerous hospitalizations before, some of them very serious..

Likely going to move back to Bangkok and for that as well as the air quality and other things like the heat I am dubious about that to say the least..

^Does he live in a mansion?

I'd like to live in Thailand, or at least try living in Thailand. I'm debating on if I would rather live in Bangkok, because that is where most of the jobs are. Ideally it would be nice to live on an island or near a beach, but not sure about that yet.

The good thing about Thailand is it is easy and cheap to travel around.

I'd also like to check out South America someday. Maybe live there for awhile.

I can live anywhere I want, and I am right where I want to be. Many of the people on this site are retired, I would assume they are where they are because that is where they want to be. I hope that is true, anyway.

I loved living in the Philippines - but that was 25 years ago and a completely different Philippines from today.

    I am easily satisfied.

i have finally managed to push a round peg into a square hole, it sorta fits, and that is where i am, if you could be anywhere? i am here, and it took some planning its not over yet, in fact it has just started, my little bit of aussie bush comfort, 30 mins to the coast and 2 hours out of metro, and i reckon i,ll be happy here for a very long time, as long as the rest of the world fucks off and leaves me alone

I sorta like living in Brazil for now but ultimately that little mooban in Suphanburi is going to be where I hang my hat permanently.

I like living in this house. I feel as though the house is an extension of myself. I could live anywhere on the planet, but I'd have to take the house with me.

I loved India. I felt 'accepted' there. I would like to move this house to Simla.

I want to go to America most of all. USA. But I would never want to live there. It is just that I have grown up with so much American influence that I simply must go and see it 'in situ' before I die. And I will.

Funny enough, when people ask me why I went to India they ask "why?". I respond that: "I wanted to find myself". To which the answer is usually "Did you?". And my answer is: "yes, I found myself wanting to get the fuck out of India!".

If I could live anywhere? Not in NW Colorado, the weather has just about beat me down. This is from my front yard looking towards the Sand Rocks Hills. I mean come on, this is April 3rd. Enough already with the snow.

Hopefully in July I might see some of the TD family...

Oh Dear! I know. I was born in Consett and visited my relations in Stanley recently. What a mess those town centres are in!!

But, as compensation, they have some of the most beautiful countryside I have ever seen, right on the doorstep. Northumbria, is England's best kept secret. God's own country, I think.

Given the choice for me it would be the jungle town of Gemas in Malaysia or Yangminshan in Taiwan.
Working on them at the moment but visa regulations seem to be doing all they can to keep me out !
Got an offer of a house in Gemas for a peppercorn rent but without the visa - no go !
Pushing for a full time job with the Taiwan Navy ( I do consultancy work for them at the moment ) and if that works they will sort the visa problem out.
    Wait and see !!!

Sorry I just saw your question. Korean winters aren't harsh compared to what I had to put up with in Ottawa (sometimes -30c).

I'd like to visit or even live in Australia as well. That is usually how I get to see a place. I live there, teach, and travel when I get a chance. Ahh, the luxuries of being a teacher.
