^Yeah, over the years I've seen the same group of grubby looking Thai guys with a succession of foreign girls. Good work if you can get it I suppose.

Why would a farang come here to open a business, jese christ at least go to a country that you could at least make expenses, and that ain't here, I have seen Kiwi, Aussie and other round eyes go broke here and go back home.Originally Posted by Rural Surin
I am one farang out of which there are many that don't really give a fuck how tough it gets for Thai, my money will still keep coming because I did work til I had it made and was ready to retire.
So if these lazy or worthless assholes came here to make a beans and rice living trying to teach a language that Thai do not give a fuck about I just don't give a fuck about em either.
In the ~3 years I've lived here, I've known at least 10 farangs pack up and leave.
With few exceptions, Thailand is a place to retire to, not a great place to try and earn a living. Not saying it can't be done, but ... wouldn't it be easier and more lucrative back home?
100% agree. I have been in both positions and life is great retired and was fraught with "complications" when working here.Originally Posted by Texpat

As Tex stated, there are exceptions. Many foreigners have done well but generally Thailand is not the easiest place to do business. There are better places in the region from a purely business standpoint but for personal reasons the overall quality vs business benefits kept me in Thailand. Still, being retired is far better but would probably say the same if I was in Somalia.Originally Posted by AntRobertson

Well those convection things that Tesco-Lotus is selling on sale are made in Thailand and undoubtedly made for export as everything on the box is English and maybe they just couldn't ship them at a profit so I imagine Tesco bought a shit load of em and being a Brit outfit, they are selling them at a discount which a Thai co. would never do,
