    Anoraknophobia

Looks like the cold season is finally upon us.

As of yesterday despite the temperature being in the upper 20's, everyone is wearing anoraks and woolly hats. One fellow I saw in Lotus had a parka on that would have done an eskimo proud.

I'm pretty sure that there isn't an announcement on television "1st day of winter", so what triggers this lemming like fashion statement ?

Reminds me of my first vacation in Bangkok, more than 30 years ago. There was a sudden drop of temperatures and the Bangkok Post (?) was running articles about "get your winter woolies out, it will remain cold" and "beat that cold with a glass of red wine".

For me it was the first day where the heat was bearable in the early morning.

Or years later, when I was already married to my Filipina wife, living with me in Berlin, we received a letter of the MiL. She wrote that it was good we didn't come to the Philippines this year, because the winter is really, really cold. My wife was almost rolling on the floor laughing.
