oh oh let me answer this one... I love this kinda nuancy stuff

cute = appealing in a childish or youthful sense, its whimsy - dimples, big eyes and a lovely smile... it is a rather low status compliment suggesting a superficial level of attractiveness (sorry, Goddess... but bear in mind it was Marmite who called you cute, not me)

gorgeous = is a more fundemental expression of beauty, it is loin stirring stuff, it has hints of sensuality and erotic - it is also more idiosyncratic and subjective... one man's (or woman's) gorgeous is another's blergh

beautiful (I know you weren't asking about that but I am gonna tell you anyway cos I on a roll) is classic, instantly recognisable and has the highest status

In my opinion:

Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Zhang Ziyi and Kirsten Dunst are cute

Franka Potente, Salma Hayak, Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie are gorgeous

Audrey Helpburn, Gong Li, Gwyneth Paltrow and Milla Jovovich are beautiful
