    A question for Panamahat

    Dear Panama Hat,
At what age is it acceptable to where a panama hat?
Sean Connery can pull it off (see the new Luis Vuitton ad) but what about someone in their 30s?
Secondly what attire would you suggest to accompany said hat?
    Many thanks,
    Blake7

Here is a link to a site with information on Hat Etiquette, it is of US origin but I imagine could be applied globally.. It has some excellent information like:

"Tipping of the hat is a conventional gesture of politeness. This hat tipping custom has the same origin as military saluting, which came from the raising of medieval Knights face visors to show friendliness. "

    and

"A gentleman takes off his hat and holds it in his hand when a lady enters the elevator in
any building that can be classified as a dwelling such as an apartment house or hotel. He puts it on again in the corridor."

How I have goine so far in life without knowing stuff like this I never know

I'm afraid I'll disappoint you as I have never worn a hat nor do I smoke . . . it's rather a matter of perceived lifestyle of a bygone era that I'd love to emulate . . .

Looking at old movies, however, it looks nice to see men wearing a hat, doffing it at the right occasions . . . but it just reminds me too much of school where we did have to wear the awful things. (No, I'm not that old but my old school still
    has thr requirement)

I think you should wait another five years unless you are going to India. Stick with the ruffled effect hair, at least you still have hair.

This is the kind of casual attire acceptable:

For more formal occasions, a sand or beige linen suit is the ticket:

That special 40s retro look is appropriate for private dinner parties with selected hi-so TD members, as well as for casually posing at top-end nightspots in cosmopolitan KrungThep:

November's GQ discusses Panama hats and at what point in life it is appropriate to wear them.

I have a Ralph Lauren Panama hat. Seldom wear it though.

Nobody over the age of 16 should wear a baseball cap.

I suppose the best person to ask would be the man from Del Monte, as he always wore a Panama hat. On second thoughts maybe he isnt the right person to ask because all he could say was "yes" and he wasnt real anyway.
