I think the OP needs to grow a pair of balls!! There are ways and means of dealing with issues like this, it seems that he doesn,t want to hurt her feelings to much.
Make her feel inadequate and she,ll go to much loss of face. Its genetically built in for them loss of face and their world collapses. Then its back to the family to repair the damage.
