    Staying in the LOS forever?

I (loosely) compare myself to an arctic adventurer, who loves his home country but every now and again feels the need to head off somewhere completely different for a while, for a bit of life stimulation, but who is certainly not envious of a polar bear's lifestyle (albeit a lazy affair with plenty of fish to go round), who despite enjoying the experience regularly complains in his journal about the strange environment and frost bite, and thus has no wish to hang out in the arctic forever.

    loosely translated into...
Smeg is right, he has a sense of purpose and a direction in life, and everyone else is wrong, we are here not because we want to be, but through lack of choice, owing to lack of skills, talent and energy.

where do you see yourself in 10 or 20 years Smeg and will it be a better position than most of us losers?

Nope, losely translated as a reply for the usual "why do you stay here if you don't like it?" or "why do you complain about this paradise?" simpleton questions from the more extreme Thaiophiles on here.

Out intrepid adventurer, exploring the wild and dangerous sois and back alleys. never once forgetting hearth and home. Thoughts of a comfortable evening; feet up, telly blarin' as he suffers the physical discomfort and emotional strain of working out n an air conditioned yuppie gym amongst the wild and unpredictable Thai office girls.
Who knows where our heors adventures willtake him next? the uncouth and humid surrounds of a beer garden where still more unpredictable Thai beer-girls vie for his attention and pelt our man smeg wth soiled panites and strips of paper with phone numbers scribbled hastily.

Yet suffer he must; for to leave those less "in theknow" those less fortunate and worldly than he would be a disservice, a cowardly ignorance of his calling... Nay, Nay NAY! Our man smeg is on the job find the ugly underbelly of Thai-O-Phillia, that dreaded malady that consumes those unwitting and erstwhile complacent middle aged beer-bellied men from Bournemouth, Skanectedy, and Columbus.
    He treads wearily forward ever onward, ever vigilant, pleasantly singing as he tread through the physical dangers and emotional stress;
"Home is meant for comin' from"
    "'n thoughts of goin to"
    Oh, I was born"
    under a wandrin' star"

Not really, but if you are interested, check out a forum I found, www.igloodoor.com.

Its a bunch of guys who are addicted to polar bears, fish, and cold weather, and who have vowed to spend the rest of their days in the arctic. They use the forum to communicate across the vaste expanses of ice and polar bears with the few other likeminded souls there, and they chat about fish, polar bear behaviour, shagging polar bears, how clever they are to have discovered this land where it is never warm and where obtaining fish is cheap and easy, but mainly banter, drivel and stupidity, because they are going stir crazy and have nothing else to do because using the forum is more fun than hanging out with the bears.

And then along comes their saviour and enlightens them of the fact that they dont really like polar bears, they dont really like hot weather, they dont even like fish.

He hates living in the cold and arid wastes and just cannot seem to stay away, but feels vastly superior to them because he knows it what a dispiriting place it is and they, thick as bricks, look and act happy.

Some even have the gaul to have steady jobs, marry, have families, own homes.
Imagine the stupidity of that! What losers.

Where our hero, the broccoli juice drinking adventurer from Bournemouth, lives among people he calls retards, in a place he calls a stinking hole.

Just a thought but why not post a "why do you stay here if you don't like it?" topic, state your reasons why then allow others to do the same leading to a mass debate.
All the artic explore analogy stuff just cloudes your point, I have trouble actualy understanding you point on a lot of your opening threads, they seem a bit aimless and rambling rahter than getting directly to the issues. You have to remember that all of use are'nt interlectual teacher types like what you is

    Smeg,

If you could stop trying to act like one of the liberals by always finding a way to come across as condenscending ... this is one of your posts I could find myself agreeing with.

People are so brainwashed ... into believing we should put down roots that sometimes I think we just resist the urge to deny being a transient species. Nah, maybe that's just the military instititionalized side of me talking, right ?

Smeg: you should try hanging out on the KSR for a bit - KSR is the Jerusalem for Thaiophiles - Thaiophilia reigns supreme there
