    An interview with Smeg

Hi Smeg, I sympathize with your cause and many a time I have experienced what I call 'A bad Thai day', and I was disappointed you didn't show up in HuaHin because you are one of those posters who is somewhat of a legend yet also an enigma, and by that I mean it's not easy for me to imagine what you are like in real life.

We could have also slagged Thai people off until our hearts content over a couple of beers, but that would have eventually lead to the questions I am about to ask.

I too like to moan and complain, and Thailand and it's idiosyncrasies is one of my favorite subjects for this, but there are things I like about the place, and I believe there must be some aspects that do endear you to it and therefore keep you here.

    So my question is:

What do you like about Thailand and if you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

(Bear in mind there are complete idiots everywhere, from Indonesia to Australia.)
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

I think the question requires some qualifiers. Sure folks come to live/work in LOS for all kinds of reasons. But standard of living always fits into the equations in some fashion. I would venture to guess many a farang would exhange life in LOS for life in the west if they could have the same standard of living in the west their income gets them here in LOS.

It's all about bang for the buck - in more ways than one.

Why not interview you. No need to wait until August. Scampy, so what is your first question?

Interesting link. I'm amazed that there's a whole website for engish teachers in Thailand. I never thought there'd be enough interest to sustain such a 'niche item'. I dont suppose it gets much traffic?

interestingly enough gerbil, that site is where the bulk of the original mods admin and posters found each other.

the tv crowd came a bit later.
