I had a Rat in the Kitchen....

I just caught one of those bastards tonight. I used the big glue plates and finally got him. Last night, he destroyed the plate, eating all the way through it and didn't seemed fazed by the glue.

Tonight, his cheeks and paws were stuck on the glue and I got him. I almost resorted to rat poison. I put two more traps out to catch his buddies.

How do you catch your rats?

I used to lay out bait and nail 'em with a pellet gun. Big game Hunting without leaving the house.

Used to use those cage type rat traps- when you catch one drop the whole thing into a bucket of water- not any more though - got a cat !

Had one or more in one house. Laid bait behind the fridge -- wankbombs ate it, went in the water tray under the fridge and peed and pooed there. Put all my foodstuffs in glass jars or the fridge. They ran over me in bed one night to get to my clothes closet. What? They were after my travel soap. The dogs weren't fast enough to catch them so got me a meowface. Problem solved.
And those glue-stickers. Yuk. The rat is still alive, just stuck. It was funny seeing a gay Thai neighbour bonking them over the head with his wok. I couldn't do it.

The funny thing about the rat I caught last night...I noticed that a gecko had gotten stuck in the glue earlier, and I had placed several slices of salami and chicken pieces as bait in the middle.

Everything was gone from the plate excep the rat. He wolfed down that gecko and salami before he bit the dust.

Jeez Chin, you put out quite the spread for the unwelcomed guest. Last dinner and all? Tiny linen napkin?

If I'm ever over to your place, I'll be sure to check under the kitchen cabinets for a snack.

^You know that salami was damn expensive import I bought at Carrefour. I believe every doomed creature should have a nice last meal.

Get a cage and bait it with a chicken foot.
Then once you catch your rat you can either spray it with Baygon or use an aerosol can as a flame thrower and crisp it up.
The Baygon bug spray will kill it a few minutes sfter it is sprayed.
The flame thrower is more exciting though..........

^I did consider using my Siglo flame thrower cigar lighter on his eyes, but thought, nah, I'm in a holiday mood, so just put him in a bag and took him out to the rubbish bin. Reckon he'll die a slow death at the garbage dump now.

Yeah, rats are nasty and can eat your clothes, books, and all kinds of stuff. (I'm told, not by experience).

It sounds like the Sticky Traps are the way to go.

I had a mouse or small rat in my apartment last week and my neighbor got it with a sticky trap as it was going into all of are apartments.

^I never realized the power those nasty vermin have. I found out today they had eaten through some back metal screens in the kitchen used for venting the stove. They chew through metal!

We had some that went up a tree and onto the roof anf got in the attic area, was chewing on wire insulation, got some exterminators to come out and as they were doing our spraying had them set some bait stations around in the attic and outside,, that was a few years ago and still have no more rats,, the stuff they used makes em go outside and look for new country before they die so all are outside when the big event hit em.

Where I live, they chewed through the screens in the kitchen to get in. I could not figure how they were getting in.

Now I just make sure the windows are cranked shut at night. Hope they don't eat through the glass

We had mice in the house, not rats. Yes, they chew almost everything, from styro-foam to computer cables.

One should not eat the house-rats.

We let the mice go that we catch in our cage trap, trouble is it depends on which floor, ie ground floor they get released across the road, 4th floor they get released into mid air from the balconey, outside in our tiny little garden area we got a family of great big rats, probably poison them though

Next time you get one on stuck on a glue plate just pop in a plastic bag and tie in a knot . one minute full power in the microwave job done !

Sad thing is that there are folks who would pay money to watch a video of that...

Bought an older home in Las Vegas, had been unlived for two years. Moved in, set off bug bombs, place rat poison strategically, came back a week later. No rat carcasses, no new rat droppings, woohoo!

Over the next 18 months while remodeling, used to find partly decomposed rat carcasses in the walls. Fortunately, due to the high heat and low humidity, no real smell; just desiccated rats.

Point is, the poisons that contain warfarin (blood thinner) cause the rat to seek out water or cool places; then it dies from internal bleeding. Beware of warfarin poisons if there are places within the house your rat could shelter before dying.

A fun (?) thing to do, if you have time and desire, is to buy some UV-powder; bought some at a craft store. Generally, any phosphorous-based compound will do.

Then, spread out the powder near where you think the rats are or will go. Next night, use an UV light to see their little mousey footprints.

But dont do this if you have cats, dogs, or rugrats in the area.

Also be warned that the UV light will cause bodyfluids to glow, such as blood and semen.

I should go to sleep now, it is 4AM local time.
