Do the Brits really hate the French?

Just wondering, I heard this from some Brits when living in England. I heard that English people don't like the people from France, but i wasn't sure if it was just a friendly disdain as in competition or it was something more deep rooted. I have heard that the French (from France) don't have the best reputation when travelling to other countries for one. I also heard some bad things about Brits when travelling as well. lol.

So if any Brits could tell me if they dislike the French and why that may help clear things up. Anyone travel to France with being so close proximity. It may be like the competition between Canada and the US I'm thinking.
I almost took the chunnel over to France at one time, but didn't get the chance, sadly.

^That wasn't really the question was it? Anyway, It is known by many that the Brits don't like the French, so just wanted to hear some Brits opinions. Anyhoo, way past my bedtime. By the way, I booked a trip to France earlier tonight, been on my bucket list for awhile.

You must distinguish between the English and the Scots/Irish/Welsh who have had centuries of conflict with France until the seismic "entente cordiale " c 1910s under Edward the seventh just in time for the Great War.

Religeous and sporting rivalries are common between neighbours exacerbated in memory of seniors by General De Gaulle blocking UK from entering EEC forerunner of the EU.

Until the of Act of Union and since there have been Francophiles in Scotland Ireland and Wales.

While there are xenophobes and hostility to those who killed your famly like iraq, Afghans or going back to 1980s Argentine or the Germans of WW2 the majority of English people I know are as friendly as ordinary folks anywhere.Their modesty , kindness and politeness is universal until "opening time" or drunk in the sun! The people in the North are notoriously hospitable.

As in much of Europe uncontrolled mass migration has created tensions mainly aimed at peaceful sub continental and ME muslims, I have see little opposition to the many white Canadians Australian or New Zealanders who live and work in London.

The narrow minded look for the things that divide more generous look for the things that unite us be culture sport or KY jelly?
Many English heroes are foreign ranging from Jesus Palestinian,The Royals Hanoverian and Greek, national saint George who was Turkish and even Americans are popular amongst the easily swayed like Lady Gaga Boris Johnson or the Kardashians.

Many have no objections to Canadians esp those bearing Mangoes, tho I believe Chitty prefers big melons! Remember you only get one chance to make a final impression.

No, they don't. It's just a bit of friendly rivalry.

Except for Parisians, but even the French hate them!

We took the train for this game and when we were coming through some gare in Paris on the way back I asked a woman in English whereI could find the bogs - admittedly a mistake - and then asked her in French.

She replied to me "your French is shit" and walked off.

France is a big place, and many rural areas quite beautiful. Apart from David’s post, it generally reflects history.
Google Bonaparte and the Duke of Wellington.

During WW2 the English required no passports to relieve the beaches of Normandy. The French are genuinely grateful, but they do have very long memories.

I like the French because if they do not like a law, they ignore it. Many friends live and visit there on a regular basis. It is a pastoral haven away from the cities.

The younger visitor is not so backward looking as older folk. Friendly rivalry is the best, contemporary way to look at it.

Nothing doing, but the train from Brussels to Munich split in Cologne and that is a story!

Too long to type, but I've just remembered another story from before the game in Ostend!

After living in Germany for 10 years, I was tasked with victualling a sailboat from St Malo to UK. I had a mental block on ‘fromage’ and asked for ‘Kase’ by mistake. My bad. Left France with lots of cheese and wine, very quickly.

I actually think that the poms don't much like the French and vice versa. I reckon I could turn up as the suave Australian world traveller that I am.pop the cork on a few bottles of a cheeky little wine with that certain je ne sais quoi and them French birds couldn't get there knickers off quick enough hal, Joe, Reg,malmo, tax, etc etc. Simply couldn't compete

We have no problem with anyone.

Sit down and have a pint with us.

    That's the acid test.

And then we'll make our mind up.

Actually, I think most of us are quite kind to strangers struggling with the lingo.

With the obvious exception, as Troy pointed out, of Parisians.

This is far too nuanced for her.

I spent a lot of time working in Paris around 10 years ago - the Paris office always serviced any West African projects - sure, there's a national animosity but as with anything else, when you're on the ground that means nothing. I soon established a couple of 'locals' to have a pint (half litre) on the way back from from work and I would have to say that with so many north Africans around, the kebabs were superb.

There were some really spectacular black secretaries in the offices, as well.

I have no problem with the French at all, but their hotel breakfast offerings are complete shite.
