This is an indisputable fact alongside others widely known such as Ouagadougou being the best named capital city, and the appellation of Ajax Amsterdam combining awe and simplicity with the greatest moniker in the football world.

I've never understood why 'Rule Britannia' isn't our National Anthem, it's catchy, upbeat and positive... much better than the awful dirge we have to put up with.

Isn't it just a dirge?

My own personal choice would be Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley though.

Returning to the subject of national anthems, The Olympics is great as it always throws up some really good ones that you would never have heard.

My own personal favourite is the Kazakh one.

True enough, Manchester supporters would only understand every 5th word.

But the chorus is great, why don't we just use that? It would speed things up a bit as well at 2am when I'm desperately trying to stay awake for kick off.

A parody of Lenin leading the old USSR Soviet anthem from the film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy a remake of the classic thriller. The author David Cornwell my erstwhile neighbour in Lamorna appears holding a beer on the right of this famous scene where MI5 staff Xmas party.

A wonderful irony was at the time John Le Carre wrote some of the UK intelligence was riddled with moles, double/triple agents, turncoats, commies, wickdipping, honey traps, shirtlifting de rigeur and just plain greed, as revelations of Poliakoff, Ames, Golitsyn et al later showed. Despite oddly similar origins and age he has weathered far better than I in the handsome man department

The Chinese national anthems the worst one. It's a cacophony of about a million of them clearing there throat noisily in the morning , hack , cough, spit. Haack cough spit repeat
