We outsource to a very nice old woman that lives near the front of the villas. 5 baht a unit and wouldn't budge despite my shouting and screaming. Seems to be training up her teenage granddaughter so we're sorted for a while yet.

Cleaning once a year or so, nay bother, but like Mendy and his tiling, we are in full agreement that ironing clothes can go suck a donkey dong.

The gardener appears to do our ironing.

I haven't worn an ironed shirt since the day I got married but I like to see the daughter look smart for school.

    You pick your battles.

You do realize Edtard (or maybe not) that some people have lives outside TD. If your existence revolves around TD then you need to get a life. I never flounced (which apparently you seem obsessed with). I happen to be extremely busy with numerous projects and programs with my current company and assisting with a new venture so my posting will be far and few between. I will visit when I have time.

Ironing? Who irons here. Oh yeah. forgot. If you hang your clothes out after they are wadded up in the washer, they look like someone ran them through a wringer. Perm press, fold or hang straight out of a dryer and Done.

They are an great investment and sure makes life easy. Early on my wife used to use the typical washing machine here that basically just wadded the clothes up in a big ass ball. I used to watch her untangle them all and then hang outside on a rack then chase them all day avoiding rain, wind and the other unpredictable elements here then set aside what had to be ironed. I said Lets just buy a dryer like we had in the states. She said that would be GREAT with a big smile. We bought a big Electrolux unit about 6 years or so ago and I haven't seen the fancy iron she had in all that time. Might have given it to her sister. Now she pulls the clothes out of the dryer, folds or hangs. Life's creature comforts.

Pretty much everyone is on the same side, snubby.

    It isn't your all-conquering heroes.

Also, most posters here have been in the region for while. I doubt anyone is unaware that Australians also fought on the wrong side.

    The winners? As they won.

You'd have been on the loser's side, that lost, right?

    Okay Flouncy.

Speaking of irons, we were in some IT City/Powerbuy kinda place before Crissy and noticed an iron for 27,000thb. which struck me as a bit excessive.

Having never actually bought an iron before, I didn't start that day.

The tommy tanks lost the war because they couldn't adapt to jungle warfare and wanted an open war as per WW2 as an example.

But to get back to helges comments. I wasnt suggesting the US were the bad guys and the hmong were the bad guys , lao had little to do with the Vietnam war political but being a buffer country kinda got dragged into it. The pathet lao took full advantage of this situation and seized power. Laos used to have a Monarchy similar to Thailand, they were all killed no monarchy exists today. Wether that's a good thing or a bad thing is hard to say. It's certainly hard to say who "WON" and who " LOST". In the Lao context anyway.

    Nobody did

I think that you suggested that the HMong wasn't universally loved in Laos.

And my comment was that the HMong fought for the "other guys".

    Not complicated, BLD

Well, it certainly wasn't the average Lao bloke of the time, that had the absolute living shit blown out of his arse so the yanks could save on fuel for years and years on end.

Completely useless fact, but the bedframe on which I sleep every night was actually the day bed of the last king of Luang Prabang..... It was removed from his palace yonks ago and somehow found its way into my old Lao house.
